I was excited to go to the Monday night run at Maynards tonight with Cristina. My legs felt sluggish when we started and it only got a little better - they're probably tired from the bike race yesterday. Thank heavens there are lots of interesting people and things to see along the way to keep the run interesting.

This time does not include waiting at stoplights and things.

Cycling race 50:55 [0] 11.45 mi (4:27 / mi)

I did a bike relay section of a mini-tri today. I'd never raced biking before and it was kind of fun. Our team did well too!

Cycling 47:00 [2] 8.46 mi (5:33 / mi)

On Sunday I'm supposed to ride 12 miles as part of a relay triathlon team with Cristina and Setiva (a co-worker). I was trying to simulate the race conditions today but riding a square around Randolph gas it is a square in the same orientation and should have been relatively free from cars and people at this time of day. However there is something called training week for baseball so there were actually crowds of people walking on the western and northern sides of the trail. Oh well. It was still good to get out on the bike again and get used to riding a little bit. It will probably take me about an hour to do 12 miles I'm guessing without traffic lights and cars and people to avoid.

My blood sugar was dropping from being high this morning when I went out but luckily biking (on flat ground) doesn't seem to affect my blood sugar much.... which sort of makes me think it's not doing much for my muscles or calorie balance either.

We rode to the farmers market and loaded up with some frozen meat and (non-frozen) produce. Wow I was very tired and sore on the way back!

Just a run to Randolph and back since we didn't have enough time to goto a good trail before sundown. I sprinted across the street with Cristina and spent the next couple of minutes recuperating from that sprint. Then I ran around Randolph until I hit the 15 minute mark and then turned around intending to go out for 30 minutes total. When I got back to the house I felt like making it a full 3 miles so I ran a little farther and ended up doing a few pickups right at the end. I felt cruddy at the beginning and then energized by the end. I think the cold (but not too cold) weather really helps as well as a good supply of Planet Money podcasts.

Blood sugars - 106 before the run, had half a bottle of grape juice and lowered my basals to 25%. I was a little nervous because I had a fair amount of active insulin on board. At the end of the run I was 69 but the lowered basals caught up to me after dinner with some a high blood sugar.

I was excited for my group tennis lesson tonight but I wasn't sure if it was going to happen since it was raining and gusty winds were blowing our trash cans around just 30 minutes before the lesson. I drove over there anyway after the rain stopped but the courts were empty.

As a substitute workout I went for a walk around the neighborhood. I finished 1.5 Planet Money podcasts and learned about Greece, Jamaica, and Barbados. Blood sugars - fine. Walking on flat ground doesn't seem to do much.

Running 43:32 [2] 3.64 mi (11:58 / mi)

Monday night run. I was running a bit late to the Meet Me at Maynards run so I joined up with the run about 2 blocks into the run near my parking spot. It was a few minutes before my watch picked up the satellites so it's actually a little longer than my watch recorded - probably 3.8 K but who's counting.

Blood sugars just happened to work out perfectly for the time I ran - started at about 180 with some good snacking in the afternoon and then my blood sugar held up with a 50% basal reduction started during my drive over (later than ideal). My blood sugar at the end was 134 but my sensor said 117 with double down arrows so if I'd run for much longer I probably would have needed a snack.

Although there were only about 120 people at the run due to the cloudy weather (about half the normal crowd) I *still* didn't win a raffle prize. Arg.

2nd Annual Sunrise at Old Tucson Studios. Good run today, it got a little hot out when we were on the desert loop. I felt sluggish at first and then tired around mile 2.5 but there was enough going on to keep me going.

Blood sugars okay - started in 180s and had a goo before the run. Reduced boluses to 80% about 2 hours prior then 40-50% (I kept changing it) about 1/2 hour before the run. My sensor seemed a little high so I had a glucose tab out on the race. We were given a free breakfast burrito spread (bolused 2 units for 2 small tortillas and some apple juice) and when I got home I was in the 120s.

Tennis 40:00 [2]

Basic tennis class tournament - it was threatening rain so only 4 people showed up in my level. We played doubles for one game and then singles for one game. The amount of running in the singles game was much more intense than in the doubles game.

Tennis lesson #3 today. We actually played Pseudo real games today after some drills. We still haven't learned how to serve overhand or do real scoring but that's okay. I did a little bit better with my follow-through today. Might do a beginners tournament on Sunday!
