Rowing/Paddling 1:30:00 [3]

I had a lovely day on the Rio Salado again today. This was my third lesson with my young coach Erin in a single. We worked on the same old issues plus some new ones - set, rolling up to square blades earlier to avoid flip catches, and not digging (especially on starboard for some reason). The drill that really seemed to help the digging was rowing arms and back only.

By the end I had some good stretches but I'm still not entirely able to keep my blades off the water even on pretty flat water. I also keep trying to set the boat with my knees instead of my hand levels. At one point after I had turned around at the dam Erin suggested that we do some drills to keep in contact with the boat. She told me to take my feet out of the shoes and hold on to my oars with one hand. Then I was supposed to stand up! I held my oars with my right hand and then my left... finally I was able to put my feet on the deck and stand up. The water was perfectly still and it was great!

A bit of me was thinking that it was so hot out that it wouldn't be a big deal if I flipped but no luck:)
