Paddle (Fish day 2) 2:05:48 [3] 34.0 km (3:42 / km)

Fixed the pumps over night, not my seat... Set off in B batch with 3min to make up, which was going to be close to impossible on a more open day.

We raced away with Nic and crew from the rest of the batch, not managing to get away from the by any means.

Eventually we got to marlow shute and the tight sneak thereafter. They went down first with me allowing them plenty of room. They hit the left bank, ramped up and spun around, with us driving into and over their back deck, causing some damage, but not back enough to end their race :), we got ahead of them, successfully managed cradock wier (which they portaged) and we made it to the finish only 1min ahead of them.

Finished 2nd k3 and made up to 5th overall. Very unfair comparison... it's basically like paddling with a engine in the back. Loads of fun and will race a k3 again some time.

Paddle (Fish day 1) 3:01:58 [3] 48.0 km (3:47 / km)

K3 fish with Corel & Alistair

We decided to paddle k3 this year to try something different. Admin of getting a boat to use at short notice was high. We eventually managed to get the boat the day before the race... not ideal as pump were not great and neither was the front seat.

We were expecting to be at the front end of the k3 field if all went well. We started in the racing k3's batch and paddled across the dam with crew of Nic Burden (current holder of mixed & mens k3 records), Sean Dias (bus) and Kerry Segal (SA level sprinter).

Successfully made it down double trouble and toast rack, made a move to get ahead of them in the willows before keith's and then shot keith's without trouble, built a lead of 100-200m before prospect portage, with a very unfortunate swim at the put in, filling up with lots of water and getting passed by the competition. Soutpans was fine but we took on lots more water & the gap to other boat grew and we struggled to paddle at speed.

Pumps stopped working and we (Corel & I) had a domestic about whether or not to stop and fix... Slightly embarassing... but we made peace shortly thereafter, and struggled to the finish.

Finished the day ~3min down in 2nd (and 7th overall)
