Wartrail Day 2.

Leo pushed the pace right off the start and I just followed, it took me a while to warm-up but at 40/45k i started feeling good, but that didn't last long, Leo smashed the hike-a-bike and got 5min on me. I started to struggle after that, and the conditions knocked my energy, pretty rough compared to all the road riding that i've been doing. Long day out for me, I think at least 30-45 min down on where I should have been. Sugars were good but I didn't eat enough along the way. Leo got the record for the stage and established a bit gap of 1hr30 on me, a very strong ride!

Wartrail stage Day 1.

My goal for wartrail was the win, so my plan was to stay in touch on the run and cycle and smash the paddle (not that original, but hey). The run to Balloch all went to plan, I stuck with Leo all the way, keeping up a good pace and not stopping for much. I starting feeling a big fatigued running down toward skiddaw and I had run out of water, but kept pushing. Leo powered down into the Balloch valleys and had a solid run to the finished, while i just managed some slower shuffling, losing 14min to the end. Fastest split to Balloch for me.

The conditions were stunning, everything was green, this definitely slowed some sections down but the were also some new graded sections which ran much faster.

A hard first 5 laps, just holding on to the bunch and getting into some good positions, finally was able to relax and stayed to the end. Solid time for level of training, hopefully it is good enough for 60k’s at wartrail!
