Freedom Circuit 700.

Needing some adventure in my life and living vicariously through the freedom challenge Whatsapp group I signed up for the FC with Matt and Murray, for them a training ride for their planned Silk Road race later this year. I knew it was going to be tough, not having done much training on the bike, but I was there for adventure more than racing. The three of us didn’t plan to stick together but we just found it enjoyable riding together and realized we would get some security before from doing so as well.

We took just on 4 days to finish the ride, with the second half much tougher going than the first. I had a rough end to Day 1, as I vomited up all food consumed during the day and the half portion of chips I got at flitwick lodge, much to my dismay, the chips end up all over their courtyard. I shared a room with Matt and Murray for the night, with then leaving around 2;30am, I would follow shortly after, still not feeling well. Day 1 was hot and we had some big climbs to get through, we had some reading views through out the day, and this was just the start of what was to come. Day 1 ~189km.

Thankfully after around 40km of riding I managed to eat my flitwick lodge leftovers and thankfully didn’t struggle to eat again. I caught Matt and Murray at Matatiele and convinced them to stop For a wimpy breakfast, and the alliance was formed (or reformed), Matt and I had decided to drop Murray before I started feeling nauseous, so I guess it was meant to be. Day 2 had us aiming for Vuvu ~220km away, the first half of the day was quick riding but the climbing caught up to us and the track started to get rough in places, after a long day out we eventually got to Vuvu just as Pieter and Adrian were leaving. We had a tasty chicken stew dinner and bucket shower at the school, then slept for 3-4 hrs, which we with do for the remaining two nights of our ride.

Day 3 for us was where it started to slow down, the technical valley out of Vuvu and the following portage sections, grass tracks and turning weather conditions meant we only covered xxx.
