Road run (Springhill and back) 17:00 [1] 2.0 km (8:30 / km)
slept:9.0 weight:200lbs

Went down to the school in the evening to throw tennis ball - trying to strengthen arm. Felt weak, though.

Road run (Acalanes and back) 20:00 [1] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:9.0 weight:200lbs

Went down to Acalanes to watch the track meet. Malcolm ran a nice 2:13 800m, although his relay team didn't have a 4th runner so they quit.

Right leg is still really weird. In the morning, if I push on it near the top from the back, I can feel a very tender area deep inside, and the tendon that's connected to that area twitches and feels tight behind the knee. The leg generally feels fine, although very "bruised" inside. The worst feeling is when driving a car. Sitting on the seat with the right foot on the accelerator really hammers the tender spot deep inside. Driving is my new benchmark of progress... it's definitely getting better, but what the heck is it that makes sitting a bad thing to do?? I wonder if the original injury wasn't from sitting???

Kelsey was in Reno for the big Volleyball tournament. Three days' worth.

Road run (La Caminita Briones Sprin) 1:02:00 [3] 5.14 mi (12:04 / mi) +75m 11:32 / mi
rhr:47 slept:9.0 weight:200lbs

Sunny, warm (70), flowers everywhere - especially poppies and the little purple and red ones. Grass is growing fast. Had trouble with Cato again - very tiresome.

Leg is allowing me to run again, but only slowly, and not much uphill. I'm more and more convinced it's from sitting on a chair wrong - can feel it in my backside.

Softball 1:30:00 [1]
slept:5.0 weight:200lbs

FUn game. We got ahead 14-0 in the first inning, and went on to win 28-20. Nice and relaxing to have a cushion. I muffed another catch - it fell out of my glove. Probably need a better glove. Batted ok - 3 hits, 1 pop out. I felt I could aim the hits again.

Road run (La Caminita Springhill lo) 49:00 [2] 3.83 mi (12:48 / mi)
slept:9.0 weight:200lbs

Still stiff in the thigh, so had to go slow. Downhill walking is fine. Uphill not. So the problem must be in the back of the thigh. Also feels bruised near the surface, but I didn't bang it, so it must be some sort of bleeding inside that's coming to the surface. Weird. Still, it was no worse after two days in a row of easy stuff, so now we'll see what it's like after three in a row.

I see that Wyatt reported something similar, for 139 days!!! He says he thinks it's ischial tuberosity?? Gotta check into that.

Used Google Earth to measure distance. It measures a bit short, based on Malcolm's GPS tracker. Still, I'll use Google distance for consistency.

Cato attacked me again.

Road run (Shangri La loop) 42:00 [1] 3.25 mi (12:55 / mi) +75m 12:04 / mi
slept:10.0 weight:200lbs

Thigh feels no worse after yesterday, so I'm encouraged. Went slow. Walked a lot. Downhills feel fine.

Lots of water running in the streams roadside. Nature seems to be enjoying all this wet. More insects starting to show up - especially can hear bees.

Cato went after me. Had to wait for his owner to pull him off. Pain in the neck.

Trail (Moraga) 55:00 [2] 3.5 mi (15:43 / mi)
slept:9.0 weight:200lbs

Easy trot, very muddy, very slippery. Rain ... so what's new? Right thigh still twinges.

Wednesday Apr 12, 2006 #

Softball 1:30:00 [1]
slept:6.0 weight:200lbs

Good game. We won 14-13. I really muffed a catch, fell down, most stupid-looking fall ever.

Tuesday Apr 11, 2006 #

Walk (Precor 4.2) 18:00 [1] 1.25 mi (14:24 / mi)
slept:7.0 weight:200lbs

Easy walk, still got bad leg. Kelsey called to do math, so stopped.

Strength/flexibility (Base 20) 10:00 [1]

Right thigh feels aweful still. Better just do some of this stuff.

Treadmill (Precor 5.4) 8:00 [1] 0.6 mi (13:20 / mi)
slept:5.0

Nope. Gotta stop Thigh is n.g.

Trying to sleep in the apartment is impossible. Too cold on Monday night, too noisy from the air matress last night.

Bicycle (Precor 6) 25:00 [2]
max:128 weight:200lbs

Much better. Bike doesn't hurt the thigh. Since it feels like it's deep in the back of the thigh, maybe it's a hamstring problem. Wish I knew when it happened.

Saturday Apr 1, 2006 #

Trail (Briones crest) 1:50:00 [3] 8.5 mi (12:56 / mi) +150m 12:16 / mi
rhr:45 slept:10.0 weight:200lbs

55 degrees partly cloudy. Very soggy and slippery. Saw only two hikers the whole way.

Something wrong with right thigh/hamstring. Felt it a tad yesterday, but it's way worse today. Muscle problem.

I wonder if I need to get new shoes yet... I've run about 200 miles on these, but walked a lot lot lot on them too. They say that you should replace shoes after 400 or 500 miles, so maybe it's time.

Anyway, at least I made the March objective of 80 miles. April's is 100.
