Crooked Compass with Dusty and newbie Robyn in coal country. Her first AR-type race. Bushwhacking was new for her. Cool area with ruins, old mining equipment, and lots of depressions. Played it pretty conservative and had a fun day in the woods. Made a minor mistake on each of the 2 mini rogaines but otherwise made efficient choices for the day. Went CW for the East rogaine. At one point, Robyn sprinted off in the opposite direction, and I had to go running after her to find her. Turns out she dropped her water bottle haha. The memory O was straightforward...a quick glance at the provided map was all you needed. We chose a figure 8 route for the West rogaine, which i think was different from everyone else, at least those around us. It was a little shorter with less climb, and we made up time on the teams around us even though we weren't moving as quickly. The final section was description based and was used to break up a 3+ mile road run. Finished 1st division, 8th OA. Robyn took 3 hard spills but kept going and hard a great time (afterwards!) Got to catch up with tons of AR peeps with a surprise appearance by Molly and Fritz. Get out and do some Rootstock events! Abby and Brent won't disappoint.
