Monte Molare and Monte Faito. To an extent, changed this route on the fly. All I can say is...WOW. The Path of the Gods is certainly a beautiful hike, but this one blew it out of the water. Didn't see another soul except when we stopped in Monte Faito for the requisite espresso and snacks. We decided to drive and park along the side of the road above Moiano. It was raining at the start but stopped after an hour or so and eventually became a gorgeous day. Took awhile to find the trail, as it ended up being a dead end road that became the trail. The mountains were in the clouds, and every now and then we'd catch a glimpse of a view on the 2700' climb. Topped out at the end of the stair section (so many old stone steps on the trails) and were treated to full on fall! Everything below was still green. NOTE: if you've never tried out the app Gaia GPS, I highly recommend getting it. I got it on sale in the last year, but I think for $20 you can get it and another topo app bundled. It was topo for the entire world along with other layers, and the maps have basically all established trails marked on them. You can use it in airplane mode and always know your location based on GPS. It also records your routes or allows you to create ones ahead of time. It was really invaluable for us to be able to find the trail again when it disappeared at times or was not well marked. We climbed the rocky top section of Monte Molare and were met by 2 goatherding dogs guarding the summit. They were basically on top of a massive boulder just hanging out. Afterwards, we went past Monte Faito and into the town. There used to be a railcar that went between Faito and Sorrento, but it broke down several years ago and was never repaired. It feels like a ghost town now, which was all the better for us. We grabbed lunch and found a map that gave us a better idea of a route home. We had planned to do a loop that took us back to the major climb, where we would head back down the steps towards the car. Instead, we did no backtracking and got views all the way to Capri. No stairs, maybe 2k of road at the end. Posting lots of photos tomorrow.
