Poolesville RR 1/2/3. Our field was mixed with Cat3 men, which meant sharing the road with 50 dudes. Just the first of many examples we will hit this year of the inequity btwn Men’s ans women’s road racing. There are also multiple major races/tours not even offering 1/2/3 women’s races, to include Amateur Road Nats which is right in our backyard. Anyway, tactics out he window, just needed to stay in the main field in good position throughout. 5 laps, each 10mi. There’s also a 1.25mi gravel section on the backside, which was good for some crashes at the transition. Got dropped for a bit on lap 3 when several guys fell of the field in front of me and I had to redline to bridge the gap. After 3 laps, the women’s field was down to 6 contenders, which included 2 of my Battley teammies. Coming into lap5, I got into a decent position behind Adair although I was taking some wind on the outside. With 1k to go, I rolled the dice and went with the men around me as they surged, thinking I might get some bodies btwn me and Adair. Dropped it all with 250m to go, and at 100m Adair came around me. No more gears in the legs :) she had grabbed my wheel, and she took the win. I got 2nd, 10th overall with the men’s field. Oh and it was 92°. Not a bad 1/2/3 debut.
