After showing Anne around the white, had a very pleasant run with Anne on the Green course. Went at Anne's pace and both navigated.
It was a very easy course so i don't think we made any mistakes. we could have taken a quicker route across the lake, but picked that one cause it was more scenic... competitive orienteers we are.
Think she enjoyed it.

Running long 2:46:50 [3] 28.04 km (5:57 / km) +14m 5:56 / km
shoes: GT2000 Orange

Long solo run home. tried to stay off the canal path, but ended up just going down dogging tracks constantly, which 'sucked'.
was really suffering, but picked up after i stopped for a coke.
olympic park was absolutely heaving!

Hayward Heath to Brighton
Ran the last 30 km of the ultra route to check out the terrain etc.

Ran with a 5kg bag (which is heavier than i'll have on the day) and it made a big difference. Also didn't eat enough.

Very very tough run, beautiful terrain though

Note
(rest day)

Yesterday's run was harder than expected, and a bit of Achilles pain. 1day off should do it in prep for the weekend

Running long (hills) 2:13:27 intensity: (23 @0) + (5:56 @1) + (1:29:51 @2) + (31:20 @3) + (3:59 @4) + (1:58 @5) 27.1 km (4:56 / km) +245m 4:43 / km
ahr:145 max:176 shoes: GT2000 Orange

Long commute via greenwich and did 5 easy hillreps there.
Very difficult run on account of
- didnt take water with me (hydrated well through the day)
- took 1 banana, thats it, to intentionally finish in deficit (which i did)
- did the hills in the middle so the last 10 km were fatigued.
- street-o yesterday took a bit of a sting out of my calves.

Happy-ish with it, need to rest for longruns on the weekend.

Ride to Night-O (Twickenham)
Kinda went the wrong way early and crossed the bridge, so was running a bit late. headwind, so decided to skip richmond park and go straight there
7 PM

Orienteering race 1:04:30 intensity: (7:00 @0) + (8:42 @1) + (22:28 @2) + (24:51 @3) + (1:29 @4) 12.52 km (5:09 / km) +29m 5:06 / km
ahr:141 max:166 shoes: GT2000 Orange

Night-O Twickenham
I lost about 6 mins because of errors on the map/clues early and kinda put me in a foul mood. i then prob lost 5mins total to bad map reading (which isn't too bad), and prob didn't pick the highest scoring route given the blocks around the stadium. I don't think i did as well as i could, but got a good run out of it.

Felt very good turning the pace on a bit at the end when i realised i'd be late.
Came in 2 or 3 mins late which cost me some points, don't know how many.

I enjoyed it, but think i prefer standard orienteering. I'm finding the cryptic-ness of some of the clues a bit off-putting, and also having to stop to write answers kinda puts me off.

Good fun though, and more fun than a normal hour evening run!

Sidenote - i've realised i really struggle to treat these things like a race and be competitive. I always get to the end with plenty of energy left in the tank, and never really sprinting or caring etc. Maybe the next one i do i should try and work on that.
