Hampstead Street-o. garmin missed the first km.

Again started with a mistake (a common theme) and went the opposite direction to what i intended. i then realised 1km in i hadn't started my garmin.

Made a lot of mistakes through the race, and felt constantly behind. struggled to keep things in my head. Think it may be from having a lot on my mind with the move etc.
Running wise, wasn't really moving, and tummy started playing up a bit.
Without an accurate garmin, had to guess my return time, and kinda went back a bit early because i'd had enough.

Score wasn't too bad, but don't think i did really well. win some, lose some.

Was good to have a couple of beers with Duncan afterwards, who i believe won the night! smashed it!

As a farewell to London, i thought it fitting to try for the CR on my stock-standard lunchtime run around shadwell basin. I had created a strava segment for it 3 years ago, and kinda forgotten about it.
Its just under 5 km, and the CR was at 18mins, which is pretty tricky given there are some stairs, corners, and sometimes pedestrian traffic.

Ended up smashing it by about 40 seconds. and running 1 bpm off my max for about a km. Would have been nice to extend an extra couple of hundred metres for a 5km time, but literally could not go another step.
Such a fitting way to end 3 and a half years of running in London. super happy.

Without a compass, this was pretty much just fumbling around in the mud until i ran out of time and had to abandon and catch a train back home.
In seriousness though, this was a load of fun running through the forest, and getting a taste of what non-urban orienteering is about, just wish i didn't have excuses, and didn't have somewhere i needed to be in the afternoon. I think i didn't do too bad considering, although i was exceptionally slow, and learnt a lot about trying to navigate when there aren't really too many features. A lot of it was judging what the mapper considered un-runnable terrain/runnable forest etc, and navigating off the boundaries of those zones.
2 of the points i had to try to follow a gradient line for a bearing which was harder than expected, one i had to follow a river line as the only nearby feature.
Surprisingly didn't lose map contact very often, and managed to find myself again quite quickly when i did! shows progress.
fun fun fun.

Had a look at splits browser and probably would have finished at around 2h40m if i'd continued (which would have been around 40th out of 46). bit depressing, but i'm fine with that.

Last real ride in London before moving back to Sydney next weekend.
Route was good/bad. a long drag to get out of london, and some muddy gritty back roads, but good to hit all 5 climbs.
Staple Lane
Leith Hill
Whitedown Lane
Box Hill
Coldharbour.
PRs on most climbs. doesnt say much given i don't ride down there too often, but felt very strong most of the way.
