Golden Gate Park - The Lost Herd (Stage Two/first tournament stage)

I was having a good run until I snapped my e-stick in half at 16, and had to detach the unit and dump my chip out of it so I continue on. After that I somehow managed to skip 18 while fiddling with the stick. I hit 19 and finished, then realized my mistake while walking to the download station and frantically ran back to 18 and 19 and re-finished. Whoops! Silly of me.

To highlight the craziness and hilarity of a sprint tournament: this dubious performance somehow still managed to win me my heat. Mikkel completely skipped 6 and was DQ'd, while Rex got waylaid by a homeless man tampering with 11, which caused him to finish five seconds behind my second finish.

Golden Gate Park - The Last Herd (Stage Three/middle tournament stage)

This was easily my best race of the weekend. I navigated almost perfectly and finished second behind Jerker Lysell.

I was also navigating solo for the entire second half of the race, whereas the other semifinal group (Eric, Rex, Will H, Matej, etc.) had the benefit of the pack. From the start I was running with Joseph Doetsch, until he made an error at 9, from which point I was alone and finished in second, six seconds ahead of Eric.

John McLaren Park - The Two Towers (Stage Four/tournament final)

The championship heat consisted of Jerker, Eric, Joseph, Will H, Rex and myself. Naturally, Jerker got ahead quickly, although we all missed a chance to be in the lead when he made a mistake on 3 and we all followed him instead of actually reading the map. No one saw him again after that.

I stuck with the group, although began to drop a second or two per leg on Eric and Joseph by 11. I actually managed to punch 12 first after the leaders made a small error, but I promptly proceeded to run the wrong way by 90 degrees. By the time I figured out what the heck happened I had lost about two minutes and was out of the race.

Golden Gate NRA - Land's End/Point Lobos (Stage One)

This was a very solid race for me, especially before 14. Looking at the splits, I was actually in the lead for most of the race, which is both encouraging and also a bit frustrating in that I couldn't hold on for just that much longer. I made my only real mistakes on the last two controls, and also stupidly overran the finish punch and lost an additional five or six seconds.
