Note
(rest day)

My right knee says that we are apparently not going to train much before this weekend. But watch this red-headed Canadian goof do stereotypical red-headed Canadian goof things. He didn't not break his goofy Canadian nose on this play.

Note

There are very few athletic skills or feats where the talents of normal people can either regularly or on any given day approach or eclipse those of professional athletes. The classic example is the free throw; there are literally millions of people (including me and probably you too if you ever played basketball) who made a higher percentage of their free throws in their paltry careers than Shaquille O'Neal, one of the greatest players of all time. A second example, though not as prevalent, is the penalty kick.

A third example? The chip shot 27-yard field goal.

WIOL 5 @ Putney Woods. Starting the year off in style with a big win that jumps me into first for the season and assures no lower than a second place finish. It also extends my three-year/19-race Winter Series streak of podium finishes. A red-letter day, by gum!

I had plenty of small 5-10s hesitations (1, 3, 9, 10) and took a suboptimal route to 2 (better to go up the reentrant?) but nailed the tricky 5-6-7-8 section. My only real error was a true dingus move - leaving 11 and heading for 3 instead of 12, because the 3-4 line went straight through 11. Luckily realized it as I reached the trail junction NW of 11, so wasn't as bad as it could have been. Added a bunch of distance, but as it was all fast-moving trail distance, only ended up costing ~2min.

I thought the course was quite well-designed, particularly the excellent 5-6-7 legs.

Had this playing in my head most of the run.

Easy shake-it-out yog along the CKC. WIOL 5 tomorrow!

Question: If we assembled joint Can-Am teams of the best X North American orienteers and we put them into Jukola/Tiomila:

A. How [poorly] would that team do?
B. Is that even legal?
C. If it is someone should make that happen, because it would be very interesting to see what would happen.

Note
(rest day)

I have revamped my training for the new year, adding plans and goals. Hopefully this will enable me to be less lazy than I was for much of November and December. So far so good. Only five months till team trials.

The latest developments in the world of cuteness:

Standoff cats
Cupboard cats
Drawer cats
Drawer cat
2-in-1 cats
Camouflage cat

My ongoing goal is to turn AP into one big repository of cat pics, just like the rest of the internet.
