Winter Series 6 @ Fort Ebey. One of those off days where you can tell early on that for whatever reason you don't have much in the legs. I wasn't overly impressed with the course; there were a couple doglegs, not a ton of route choice, and a lot of trail running. Ebey is a good venue, but unforgiving to course setters - the terrain is limited such that it must be used in a certain way to harness its potential and yield a great course.

Finished 1:36 behind J (but only because he made a big error on the first control) and, irksomely, 27s behind Peteris. I lost about 1:15 on 3 because I made a poor decision to cut downhill through some thick salal instead of taking the trail; also seem to have lost about 45s on 5, presumably due to the trail apparently being slower than the road, and another 45s-60s on 12, again presumably due to the trail being slower than the road. I enjoyed the 13-14 leg up the gently sloping field with the view of the water - that was a really nice touch.

Other than living in Chicago for a hot minute and a long-ago family drive-through, I haven't spent any time in the upper Midwest - so I'm contemplating wandering around Wisconsin and Minnesota during the week before team trials. Obviously there would be orienteering/training. WHO'S WITH ME? Shoot me an email or message.

"Over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Klu Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to 'order' than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice."

--Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from Birmingham City Jail, 1963
