Cycling 31:05 [3] 6.75 mi (13.0 mph) +166m
ahr:93 max:154

New watch in action! With built-in HRM! Easy jaunt to a friend's place and back to watch the big Seattle fireworks show over Lake Union.

Led by double gold from top picks Tove and Olav delivering on the hype, a great run from Fabian Hertner who outperformed his draft slot by ten places, and several other solid showings, my Long team was tops on the day - yet I did so poorly in the sprint events that I'm still last overall.

Cycling 30:00 [3] 9.0 mi (18.0 mph) +15m

I've been trying to average 6+ hrs/week since I started training for reals again after TT (eight weeks ago); as of now I'm more like 5:43/week so I need to make up about two hours. In a related story I'm down to about 185-186. Gettin' closer to fightin' weight!

Welp my team is dead last thus far, but hopefully with the help of drawing the top pick for the Long we can begin a comeback. Draft strategy: accumulate as many Swisscandis as possible.

Tove Alexandersson SWE
Ida Marie Naess Bjoergul NOR
Sari Anttonen FIN
Charlotte Watson GBR

Olav Lundanes NOR
Miika Kirmula FIN
Fabian Hertner SUI
Alan Cherry GBR

I was stoked to see the name Einari Heinaro on the start list, because he's a Finn whose mom, dad, and sister live in the Seattle area and attend Cascade events pretty regularly. He was actually here visiting for 2-3 weeks in March, but I never actually met him because unfortunately the only event we had in that time was a crappy park night-o. Would've been awesome if he'd been around for some of our best stuff i.e. the Teanaway or Quincy two-days.

Running 1:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Bridle Trails + Watershed loop. Listened to Big Pax go perfect into the sixth, then shortly after that was broken up I happened upon Jeff Grove and a friend of his, so I slowed the pace and joined with them for 2-3 miles. It turned out the other guy is a former duathlete who once finished 9th at the world championships.

Cycling 1:45:00 [3] 25.0 mi (14.3 mph) +233m

Time approx. From I-5 @ Highway 11 to Bellingham via Chuckanut Drive w/dad. Nice ride. Easy pace but nonetheless right quad was hurting by the end for whatever reason - probably something to do with going to bed late and getting up at 530 to watch WOC.

Ouch, my team was badly let down by the Queen's Own - Jones was a scratch, McNulty came back to earth, and it seems like Ingham must have suffered some on-course injury. The lesson, as always: never trust anyone who speaks the wrong (un-American) kind of English.

Looking to make a comeback with France and Estonia in the sprint relay.

Time/distance nominal

Finished Hugo #19 yesterday - Stand On Zanzibar by John Brunner. Would recommend.

Cycling 40:00 [3] 13.0 mi (19.5 mph) +15m

From work to the southern terminus of the Interurban.

Here's my WOC sprint fantasy team:
Kris Jones
Tue Lassen
Henry McNulty
Milos Nykodym

Ursula Kadan
Karolin Ohlsson
Lizzie Ingham
Caroline Gjotterup

Had to draft on my phone in the back of a car, so ended up getting autodrafted the first two rounds while I figured out how to connect. Stoked to get Jones on the men's side, but not pleased with Kadan as my top woman. I think I got good value with Ohlsson, Ingham, and Lassen. McNulty is a bit of a homer pick, because I started with him at the sprint qual last year. I think having the top pick is a big advantage this year, as you've got the prohibitive favorite in Alm plus your pick of Kyburz or Michiels. We'll see what plays out.
