Note
(sick)

A proper cold.

Thigh is quite bruised but already less swollen and painful, so shouldn't hinder activity for more than a couple days.

Loop 5 map

Mergeo's Whidbey Woods Checkpoint Run, at Putney Woods. This is a combo orienteering/trail running format where there are five loops (courses) and you've got a three- or six-hour time limit to finish as many as you can. Everyone has to do Loop 1 first, then the rest is up to you. Beforehand I had pretty much decided I'd do 1 followed by 4 and 5, as those were the ones advertised as trending more toward off-trail/orienteering, and then call it a day hopefully after about two hours.

Completed Loop 1 in ~23min, and Loop 4 in ~29min, despite losing about two minutes at 3 when the flag was a bit further into the thicker green than I was expecting. Then on the way to the second control of Loop 5, I was running downhill on a trail and kicked a small unseen stump, and went down HARD, taking major damage points on my left thigh, as well as jamming my right big toe what kicked the stump - my worst fall since the NAOC 2016 Long, where I smashed my knee on a boulder and went out for like a month with a deep bone bruise. I took a minute before determining that I could continue, albeit with somewhat subdued fervor, and was able to complete the long and tough Loop 5 without further incident other than going most of the way to 4 rather than 14 after leaving 13 - luckily it wasn't very far out of the way. I was pleased to spike most of the more rugged off-trail legs including 6, 10, 11, and 15. Missed my two-hour goal, but probably would have been right on it without the fall.

Unfortunately, I then had to come back and AR a soccer game, which was going to be interesting as after I finished a large knob quickly materialized on my thigh, and walking became difficult. However, in a comically fortuitous deux ex machina turn of events, we learned that the game was a continuation of a suspended game, so I only had to survive a minute of the first half, plus the second.

Newport 2-5 Issaquah. Home side valiantly and improbably fought back twice to 2-2, then allowed three goals in the final 10 minutes.
