Running intervals 48:36 intensity: (4:54 @1) + (30:45 @2) + (11:35 @3) + (1:22 @4) 4.8 mi (10:07 / mi)
ahr:115 max:168

Some intervals with Peteris. My legs feel pretty shot today so I did a handful of halfhearted 400s and mostly just tooled around the track chatting. Peteris claims he can run a 17:XX 5k, which I have grave doubts about.

Putrid Pete's Peak, Web Mountain, Mount Defiance. The climb took me a bit longer than I expected, and I didn't realize sunset is now ~8:30; that coupled with an overcast sky meant it was starting to get fairly dark in the forest as I started coming down. Then I started thinking about mountain lions, so I started running, and did not stop till I was in my car. I don't mind bears, but the thought of being stalked in the darkness by a 150-pound cat is not to be contemplated. I didn't see a single other person, which is unusual and a bit eerie. It's nice to have at least a couple people around, if only so that there will be someone to hear you scream.

When I left and was driving down to the freeway, I saw what appeared to be a common house cat along the side of the road ahead. This was very strange, as I don't think there are any houses or settlement within miles of that location. I must conclude that this apparition was an emissary sent from the mountain lions to make me aware that my safe passage was only due to their favorable whim.

Running 51:22 [3] 3.91 mi (13:08 / mi)

This counts as running, because running for your life is the realest kind of running.

A nice bucolic rural loop. Didn't feel too good in general, but the middle section was also a bit lumpier than I thought.

Stampede Pass training Round 2. I tried to set a course with less climb than the first one, but I set a course with more. What you gonna do. This course also had some ill-advised legs that were gnarlier than hoped/expected, primarily 8 and 19. I saw *another* not-small snake; this one was on the trail in front of me and I just had time to run-jump past and yelp as it slithered into the brush. The snakes are growing bolder. This guy was again near the lake, so in theory it could be the same guy from last time. In addition to the snek, Rick and Ryan B, Sue, and Ing were present doing various of Peteris' designs.
