"Winter League" 4 @ Fort Steilacoom. Being that it was something like 75-80 degrees, this felt very strange and more like summer in the Teanaway than a WIOL event in Tacoma. I got my second vaccine on Wednesday and experienced a bit of fatigue, but felt fine running. Made a weird mistake on 4 and then I thought 7 was 5. Also took a circuitous route to 11 cuz I forgot about the new fencing, but got Peteris by 1.5 min overall. Nice course set by Chris Cooper. I saw a guy with a O-shirt that said SUFFOC down the back, which google tells me is Suffolk OC in the UK. No idea who he was.

I recently learned that "Rainier" was the name of some random insignificant British military officer who never even came to the PNW, which is completely absurd and indefensible on its face, so now I will support the effort to restore the mountain's native name of Tacoma/Tahoma, similar to McKinley -> Denali.

Second day at Quincy Lakes South, a map which has only been used for one other event way back in 2013, and that was not a Cascade event but rather a Peteris homebrew special.

Ran okay, not as well as the previous day (unsurprisingly). Didn't have the same energy or sharpness. I started well enough, despite a bad route to 4, but from 9 onward found myself becoming mentally unfocused and making silly mistakes like losing contact/direction and drifting (9, 10, 12), being on the wrong side of the feature and becoming inordinately confused (15), or not checking the map or descriptions closely and expecting the flag to be on a spur instead of the reentrant top 5m away (11). Nothing major, just irksome ~30s bobbles for no real reason other than carelessness. On the way to 11 I caught a glimpse of Eric as he headed to 6; he ended up getting me by a minute and change.

Still, another really fun race and an excellent weekend with ideal weather and great company.
