Race (Lambs Longer leg) 30:58 [5] 5.6 km (5:32 / km) +305m 4:21 / km

First fell race of the year and very glad to not be doing the Trigger. A. Sadd in tow.

Not knowing what to expect with very little running training to date. The only people I noticed at the start were Simon Bailey and Chris Jackson, although some others looked pretty boney too. Set off fairly sedate seeing what other people would do. Simon Bailey shot off with a big gap and I found myself in 2nd! Got to the first style and didn't know how to open the gate so others caught up. Confused in the clag where the route went I held back for a Matlock vest to come along side and led the way. Hit the first descent and took it steady following a Matlock vest who took us XC but made it to the river crossing unscathed. A young lad passed us both here who was soon reeled in on the second climb where I easily got myself back to leading the pack following the flags. It was only where the steep climb eased off and running could commence I found myself losing 4 places as I just couldn't get going...

Glad to be at the top I overtook Caitlin R to get back in 5th and caught back up with the group of 2nd, 3rd & 4th Skating down the hill. Hit the flat track and I found myself losing seconds again on the group then on the final descent caught the group up but gained zilch! other than finishing in the pack.

Turns out the pack had some half decent runners; Damien Kilpin? Ben Cartwright (Matlock) and a young lad from Altrincham.

Lessons learnt: Push harder on the shorter stuff. Maybe try some longer training runs than 20min...
