Running tempo (Federal falls loop × 2) 46:51 [4] 7.2 km (6:30 / km) +432m 5:00 / km
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Kinda forgot how steep this is. The loop goes down about 200m altitude which you have gain on the way back. So it's almost impossible to maintain any rhythm. Walked a lot on the steeper parts especially on the 2nd lap. Calves screamed for mercy for most of the run

Note

So I'm gonna go to a doctor and try and get my calf pain looked at. I've had chronic calf pain for the last 3ish years when running, it feels like a pressure build up in the deep tissue that begins within about 10 minutes of starting running. The pain usually subsides within 20mins of stopping exercise. Often I get pins and needles in the feet and what feels like a lack of blood supply to the feet/lower calves. I have a strong suspicion I know what this is, hopefully I can get an answer one way or the other.

Note
(rest day)

Raining today and I kinda want to approach the transition from cycling to running training slowly. So today's gonna be a rest day to let the legs recover.

Running (Recovery ) 47:20 [3] 10.0 km (4:44 / km) +174m 4:21 / km
shoes: Asics Gel-Nimbus (2015 NY Mara

Well today was tough after yesterday's effort. Just an easy 10k with a couple hills.
These asics make it really hard not to hill strike :/

Running long (Mt Canobolas Trails) 1:33:19 [3] 14.5 km (6:26 / km) +753m 5:07 / km
weight:75kg shoes: Salomon s-lab

Long one today on some of my favourite trails. A lot of these trails make up the NSW mountain running champs. Anyway on to the important point from this run. I finally discovered what I've been doing wrong with my running technique the last 2-3 years of be causing all the lower calf pain I've been experiencing. Simply put I've been striking with a straightish leg and using my calf to do a lot of the propulsion rather than sitting down into the stride more and letting the qauds and back do the work. I discovered this by accident on today's run but holy shit am I glad I did. I managed to not only improve my km rate up hills and down hills but also avoid calf pain! It seems so bloody simple... now I can get on with running and not worrying about this shitty calf pain :D very satisfying

Running race (Park run) 18:35 [5] 5.0 km (3:43 / km)
weight:75.3kg shoes: Asics Gel-Nimbus (2015 NY Mara

Newy park run. Got a 2nd wind in the last 2km which was nice otherwise I would have been over 19mins! Definitely lacking some speed which is to be expected. Want to get this time under 17 mins but will definitely be focussing on terrain running rather than 5k times.

Running warm up/down (Park run) 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)

Note
(rest day)

Rest day after the 5 days. I've decided to train up this year for orienteering specifically and really try and get some consistent results. Went to bunnings today and got some streamers and marked out a terrain interval loop ~720m long at brush creek. I've never done any orienteering specific training of any kind so it'll be interesting to see how it goes.

Orienteering race (5 days day 5 mount brown.) 1:19:18 [4] 7.5 km (10:34 / km)
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Yyyyeeepp. Another frustrating run which showed glimpses of potential amongst a few awful controls.

I actually enjoyed the map and running on it felt very satisfying at times. But Mount Brown giveth and Mount Brown taketh away, and so it was after 4 very smooth controls wth good plans and solid attackpoints that control 5 happened. I was in the odd position at number 5 of knowing exactly where I was, but not being able to see the control feature. I relocated several times to make absolutely sure I was in the right spot. Ended up going a bit (lot) further down the hill to see if I could get lucky and find it. And there it was. Mocking me... dunno if I was just wrong or what. After that my head was not in the right place and I found it really hard to motivate myself to read the map and plan legs.

Xmas 5 days was really fun and I'm jealous of the maps that NT have at their disposal! Really well run and enjoyable event. I would just love to get out of this rut of making 1-4 errors on every course which cost me huge time.
