Orienteering (Corridor @ Pelaw Main) 1:12:55 [3] **** 10.16 km (7:11 / km)
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Went out to Pelaw Main this morning to do a corridor exercise I'd set myself with the aim of really sharpening up my nav particularly my compass. Found almost every spider web on that map, and enjoyed some particularly spiky shrubbery. I think I circumnavigated the nice part of the map. Quite a few new trails which local Motorbike riders have created with wanton disregard for anyone who may need to update the map. Missed the corridor a few times particularly on those areas where there's almost no features to correct your course. Had fun and took it easy, definitely identified some areas that need work!

Note

Left calf complaining about this morning's effort despite the slow pace. But it was a useful technical exercise. I think I'll restrict physical activity to map based exercises to maximise the orienteering benefit with not too much physical strain.

Note
(rest day)

Did a bit of damage to the calf yesterday so today is definitely off with possibly a few more days off to come :( maybe it's the push I needed to get something done rather than just putting up with the pain.

Running tempo (Federal falls loop × 2) 46:51 [4] 7.2 km (6:30 / km) +432m 5:00 / km
shoes: Salomon s-lab

Kinda forgot how steep this is. The loop goes down about 200m altitude which you have gain on the way back. So it's almost impossible to maintain any rhythm. Walked a lot on the steeper parts especially on the 2nd lap. Calves screamed for mercy for most of the run

Note

So I'm gonna go to a doctor and try and get my calf pain looked at. I've had chronic calf pain for the last 3ish years when running, it feels like a pressure build up in the deep tissue that begins within about 10 minutes of starting running. The pain usually subsides within 20mins of stopping exercise. Often I get pins and needles in the feet and what feels like a lack of blood supply to the feet/lower calves. I have a strong suspicion I know what this is, hopefully I can get an answer one way or the other.

Note
(rest day)

Raining today and I kinda want to approach the transition from cycling to running training slowly. So today's gonna be a rest day to let the legs recover.

Running (Recovery ) 47:20 [3] 10.0 km (4:44 / km) +174m 4:21 / km
shoes: Asics Gel-Nimbus (2015 NY Mara

Well today was tough after yesterday's effort. Just an easy 10k with a couple hills.
These asics make it really hard not to hill strike :/
