Orienteering race 1:07:20 [4]

Point to point orienteering at DGL's Icebreaker Adventure Run.

The good:

- Had some 'fight' in me. Felt less cautious running off trail. Pushed pretty hard in stretches.

- 2 or 3 legs completely in tune with map, running aggressively. Map didn't seem like a foreign object.

- Very hopeful I will remember how to orienteer again as I race and train more...what a concept!

The bad: (shortened list)

- Still terrible at orienteering.

- Major handrail directional errors. (10-15 minute power line error!!)...c'mon now!

- Route choice. No strategy...running and relocating on the go.

- Lacked focus at beginning and end of race. (Might have been caused by lack of sleep.)

- Horrible racing attire...I take that back...Bright-bold-dorky-90's-chic.

Good fun. Wish there were more opportunities to race in the GTA. Still dynamite printing quality of DGL maps, (overshadowed by lack of control descriptions for point to point course)...ha!

Lastly and most importantly...

DGL showed an improved snack game. (For Nevin)

Strength (bread) 45:00 [3]

Some drivel to justify adding part of my job as 'training':

Recently I've noticed that my upper body has aided in my acceleration and propelled me up hills proportionately more than I've ever remembered...

A couple months ago at the bakery, we received some noise complaints from our neighbours...specifically regarding a hydraulic lift which was being used recklessly while distributors loaded their trucks in the wee hours of the morning.

With that, the owner decided to disconnect the lift.

For most distributors this wasn't a big deal, as their smaller trucks had roll up ramps, which meant they could walk their 300 pound stacks of bread using a two-wheeler onto their trucks.

For myself, (and having a dock level truck), it's a different story.

I now have to hand bomb 2000-3000 lbs of bread/trays, (half my order - the other half I use a two-wheeler), when I start my day.

Essentially I'll do 40 to 50 reps at 50 to 60 lbs, of different variations of an upright row...with 10-12 shoulder presses too.

A real deal wake up call at 1 in the morning...which will be more like a kick to the face in the depths of winter.

Running (Some trails) 51:55 [3] 11.06 km (4:42 / km) +96m 4:30 / km

Multiple loops in and around High Park in the mist.

Really feels great to get a run in after a long work day...(Midnight to 3:30pm). Have to go straight from the bakery, with my adrenaline still pumping from slugging ryes...otherwise, I'm toast.

Not much 'bounce'...but not much knee pain either.

A couple nice km stretching it out on the sidewalks of the neighbourhoods surrounding Roncey felt good.

Running 33:22 [4] 8.12 km (4:07 / km) +48m 3:59 / km

Get 'er done 30 min (ish) run.

I feel bad schlepping Anabel out in the chariot on these cooler days, (especially come winter) so I've decided to run before she wakes up or instantly when Thanh gets through the door on the days I'm home with her.

I'm thinking these runs will be 30 to 40 minutes.

Felt great. Knee fine. Kicked the shit out of a couple hills.
