7 AM

Running 1:32:00 [2] 19.52 km (4:43 / km) +102m 4:36 / km

Long run with Old Boy Dave.

Parked at UCC and planned to do some bumping around Toronto's DV. Trails and bike paths ended up being ice rinks and super unfun...(first 5.5km were at 5:30 pace).

Bailed out to Bayview and pounded concrete for the rest. Wicked run actually (despite the concrete).

Bayview - Regent Park - Corktown - Distillery - St. Lawrence Market - Financial District - University - U of T St. George - Avenue Road - Forest Hill - UCC.

~ 4:30/km for the last 14km. Cold seemed to tighten the Achilles'.

Sprint races downtown are completely doable. An early morning race start on a Saturday/Sunday means little to no traffic. Even at 8 am today it was easy to get around.

Potential Toronto Sprint Tournament weekend:

(Early or late summer)

Saturday:

- 6 or 7 am Financial District sprint.
- Ferry to the islands and lunch/beach.
- 2 races on Toronto Islands afternoon/dusk.
- Bbq/beach/fun.

Sunday:

- Semi at York University.
- Final at U of T St. George Campus.

(The TTC says that by the end of 2017, the subway extension to York University will be complete. The line goes directly from St. George and ends at York University.)

Sounds like a killer weekend.

In summary - there's some work to do in Hogtown.

Note

1:4000 property data maps of every square km of Toronto in PDF form for $156?... Sure!!!

From the City of Toronto mapping website:

'The PDM depicts the following features: building envelopes, railway lines, major watercourses, curbs, catchbasins, hydrants, streetlights/poles, municipal addresses, street names, park names, property lines, street lines, and right of way boundaries...'

I bought a bunch of these 10 or so years ago when I wanted to map St. George Campus. Solid base data. Nice to have curbs, hydrants and light standards for reference as well.

Interested to know how up to date they are.
11 AM

Running (Mostly terrain/trail) 49:57 [3] 10.59 km (4:43 / km) +97m 4:31 / km

Gradually made my way down to High Park to meet Thanh and the kids at the emu pen.

Tried to keep off trail as most trails were ice rinks. Most of the forest/rough open stuff ended up being slick as well. Some great balance training on the ice.

3:35 km to end at the pen.

Stunning day.
