Orienteering 30:00 [3]
shoes: VJ disIntegrators
Ran around the AOA Sprint champs course at the Scouts Canada camp. Got kicked out of the camp by the caretaker (liability issues, formal permission required, etc, etc) so parked across the highway and jogged back. Since the course goes through his back yard I had to quit after 19th control and sneak out. 16:22 to Brian's 15:57. Haven't checked splits to see where I lost the time but blew RC on ?#3.
Orienteering race 1:02:00 [4]

FWOC club champs - long @ Elbow Bluffs
Good even pacing, no big errors but probably was too aggressive on a couple of the long rc's and should have used trails more.
Good map, good economical course setting. A really nice, casual and low profile event.

Took a 9' break then ran the AOA Middle distance course - 35:22 total. No big errors but legs tired by the end.
Orienteering tempo 25:00 [4]
Pre-ran the FWOC sprint race at U of C: 3.0km/17c.
No real errors but a bit slow and tired. Lots of orienteering today.

Orienteering 1:05:00 [3]***
Ran Course 6 from the Alberta Champs with no flags in the forest. Barrier Lake map, 1:10k. Beautiful area with great views. Very nice day for a run. Cruised around at easy/mod pace and was pretty clean. Stopped the watch a couple of times to make sure I was where I thought I was (at the control site). Some wonky contours but the terrain is difficult to map in some areas due to being bland. Perhaps NAOC relevant terrain in that regard. 63:44 total to Alaric's 69:27. I'll check my split against theirs on the long running leg at the end to see if they were just dogging it.
Would definitely come back here for a race!
Brad Roberts kept us entertained on the short drive over to Mt. Laurie.

Orienteering 45:00 [3]****
Easy run on Mt. Laurie. Hung some training flags (TP) for Vic around an old relay course from '02 that we had hanging around. Still a pretty good map but starting to show its age around the (vegetation) edges. Ran through a herd of horses in one area. Luckily they kept their cool and made the experience the same. Saw one moose, two elk and zero bears. Also too many deer to shake a stick at including one majestic buck that will have a real challenge keeping his antlers off somebody's mantle.
Note
I may or may not be consistent with logging my training here. I'm still very much a paper and pencil guy. I just happened to forget my log at home this weekend and Vic has wireless in her apt...

Trail running 31:00 [3]4.8 km (6:27 / km) +250m 5:07 / km
Broke up the drive down the Icefields Parkway with a quick trip up Parker Ridge. Sucking wind, especially with the altitude. Looked over the toe of the Saskatchewan Glacier as it feeds the river that eventually drains into the Atlantic. Snow line at 2500m or so consistently but at the top of the ridge there were bits - at ~2100m. Good for what ails ya on a long road trip: boredom, atelectasis and DVTs. Rolled the rest of the way to Calgary with Alan Doyle and the boys doing their thing.
