Thursday May 26

Running 32:00 [3]
OUOC club run, up to Wolfson, across the Cherwell towards Marston and then back to the Parks and the Rad Cam. Not feeling great, a little too warm for my liking and lower back hurt - sitting at a desk all day isn't all that... Surprise of the day - ran past Jeremy Paxman :)

Wednesday May 25

Orienteering 35:00 [4]
Youlbury summer series - orienteering was good, just a couple of route choices that could have been better. Not too surprising as I re-mapped the area last year - certainly helped with the contour-only loop! Physically went off a bit too fast, trying to keep up/ahead of Chris M meant I was feeling it in the last loop. And having the short loop first for the 3rd week running didn't help there!

Sunday May 22

Orienteering 1:12:00 [4] 8.1 km (8:53 / km)
Brown course at Swinley East - not great technically for most of the course. one really bad control after which I just stopped, walked the next control and started the run afresh, from where I spiked the next 8 controls. that was about as good as it got though...

Thursday May 19

Running 35:00 [3]
OUOC Club Run, shortish loop round to Donny Bridge and back, didn't feel very good at all until coming back along Iffley Road. then cycled back home.

Tuesday May 17

Orienteering 40:00 [4]
Summer Series at Brill. In contrast to last week, managed to have an almost clean run, bit hesitant in places and still got caught in the damn nettles (trying to outsprint people to the finish!) but pretty happy :) Just had no speed whatsoever on the long slog up and down the road - I'm sure it's not really necessary really...

Wednesday May 11

Orienteering 45:00 [4] 5.2 km (8:39 / km)
Shotover Summer Series, first (easy) loop OK apart from being thrown by first control being nicked. After that it was just stupid route choices, getting caught in undergrowth, no control flow - the navigation didn't happen. summed up by last control when walked within 10m of it 3 times without seeing it.

Monday May 9

Running 25:00 [2]
Don't know what I was recovering from but needed a slow run just to get the legs moving. unexpected warm up trying to get to the Rad Cam as meeting overran a little. parts of the body were aching when they ought not to, but felt much better than last Thursday. Total turn out of 5 so we're on the up :)

Saturday May 7

Orienteering 24:00 [4]
JOK 18th weekend street race. Not feeling great physically but not too bad. weaving around confused shoppers was interesting, and almost crashed into Pippa around one corner...

Thursday May 5

Running 35:00 [3]
OUOC club run with a grand turn-out of 3. Cycled down to centre, went through the Parks down to Headington Hill Park, round south parks and back to the centre before fighting against the wind back up Woodstock Road on the bike. Felt generally terrible - right leg/ankle not good at all either - after effects of 4 days of racing I think...

Tuesday May 3

Orienteering 54:00 [4] 6.2 km (8:43 / km)
Final day of Surrey Five-O, Leith Hill, running essentially the same course as the WCup athletes. Pretty good race, probably best of the lot. Pretty slow but mainly clean through the technical bits, with the biggest mistakes coming in the fast open forest, drifting off line. How the elites read that map at speed at 1:10 in the technical bits I don't know...

Monday May 2

Orienteering 23:00 [5] 3.5 km (6:34 / km)
Surrey Five-O Day 4, Battersea Park, and my first ever sprint race confirmed that I can't run. A mistake at #6, which would have been avoided by reading the control desc. and at least 1 min lost after #11 by following the wrong line out of it back towards #7... had the map folded a bit too small. Slowed down considerably after #15, perhaps went out a bit too fast?

Sunday May 1

Orienteering 1:19:00 [4] 13 km (6:05 / km)
Surrey Five-O Day 3, and UK Cup Race. bad mistake on #2 not helped by interesting concept of "small path" on the map. and a poor route choice to #15. otherwise quite good technically, just a bit hesitant. physically - it was knackering, lots of low veg slowed things down. calf seized up 2 controls from the end - guessing it was cramp as it eased up and could run on it, but it was a rather sudden pain.
