DFOK Regional Event, Westerham Chart

M21L - 10.42km, 280m climb, 28 controls

Was expecting this to be to the east of Chartwell, in and around the NT area, which looks like it has a few more contours, but was actually out to the west. Could have done with the extra climb in preparation for next week. Anyhow, I digress...

Suffice to say I had a pretty clean run for once, orienteering wasn't especially difficult though as the area was limited by the amount of green on the map. Maybe one TD5 leg, a few bits of TD4 standard, but most mostly TD3 and very basic route choice. Felt the planner could have used the area a bit better - there was some scope for over/round route choice legs followed by a few short legs in the intricate parts.

Physically I was fairly good, I didn't think I was really pushing it as I was last week, that there could have been an extra gear. The hills when they came were still knackering. Biggest error was probably after I caught Timmeo, losing around 30 secs on 26. Other than that, just slight misses at a few controls and slightly dodgy route choices, either through some horrible light green or where I'd drifted off the compass... Was also very hesitant in some parts, especially early on and in the tricky parts trying to get the navigation right. But I probably lost less time than I would have if I'd been going full out and making mistakes. Getting the traffic light system right can save more than you think :)

Cycling 16:00 [4]

To outreach, pushed it as was running late - the hill to the JR really isn't as bad as I thought it was...

Outreach at Bury Knowle Park. Walked round for a bit, explaining the map features to the children. Hung 1-4 and 9-12 for the race, and collected all of them in at the end. Race was 1.08km, think it took about 6 or 7 mins to get round and collect in.
