Cycling 46:00 [2]

To and from Hotson's to pick up the minibus

Orienteering 1:01:58 [3] ** 8.63 km (7:11 / km) +115m 6:44 / km

M21S at Hawley and Hornley. Compass was in pocket as planned, so I would read the map rather than over-relying on the rough compass. Physically took it easy round there, didn't ever feel like I was pushing it, just a nice easy run. Technically 2 mistakes - one I would have made anyway I think, misjudging distance slightly on a gorse-covered hillside, probably lost 90 secs. The other was lack-of-compass related, drifted left of the line and ended up on the wrong path, however as had been paying attention to the map (!) then almost immediately recovered it, and ended up with an easier attack - 30 secs or so there. So might have just gone sub-hour with a clean run. Oh, and there was the "just for the hell of it" bash through the bamboo-like green which must have cost 90 secs as well, but I didn't really care about that, and actually knew where I was when exiting the green!

However, most importantly, the method of forcing myself to read the map more worked :)

Cycling 33:00 [2]

Cycle back home from Florence Park - to the Cowley Road, up Divinity Rd, across past Brookes and the JR, along Marston Ferry, through Jericho, Port Meadow, by the railway line to Botley Rd and home. Some very nice views across the fields as the sun was setting. and Div. wasn't too bad on what is now effectively a one-gear bike - yes I still haven't got a new one...

Mapping 2:00:00 [0]

Updating SGB's Florence Park map...

Note

As my "big" mistake last week was caused by not reading the map often enough, I've decided that will be tomorrow's focus. So, even though this could be quite foolish on what is a fairly flat area, I'm going to run tomorrow's course without a compass to force me to concentrate on the map. An interesting training exercise...

Run - off road (Steady Run) 1:02:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks

Run from home through Ferry Hinksey Park, cycle track, Rayleigh Park and up to the Cumnor Hurst woodland - ran round there for about 20 minutes as a bit of an explore, then came back the same way to home. Still snow in places, and quite muddy along the bridleways and fields. Almost all was off roads, in some places had to use them to link sections together...

Running intervals 25:00 [5]
shoes: Brooks

Cross Country Intervals session

3 of: 3mins (30 sec), 1 min (30 sec), 2 mins

2 mins between sets

pretty much entirely on the grass so as not to aggrevate the shin too much - felt it far less than last week but think left calf still a little too tight...

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks

Warm up drills/stride before intervals, warm down jog and stretch afterwards.
