Orienteering 1:34:48 [4]*** 12.2 km (7:46 / km) +140m 7:21 / km
ahr:170 max:186 spiked:21/30c shoes: 2007 Falcons
Butter Wood Regional - brain really not very switched on led to a painfully slow/hesitant/scrappy start, picked up a bit towards the end and surprised to catch Ali near the beginning of the final loop. Undergrowth has really sprung up in the last month, bracken already hitting head-high in some places. And lots of ducking under little tree branches as well - I'm sure they were higher/I'd run through them during the winter...

The error catalogue - safe long route to #1 but really hesitant when I got there, missed #2 slightly left, silly parallel error to #4 cost a minute. Lost over 3 minutes at #6, area was far bushier (holly etc) and so didn't see control from path as thought I would and faffed for far too long. Slow to 7, lucky on #8 and then things picked up a bit, spiking most controls even if they weren't in the right place... (#13, and 14 was too low) Little misses on #25 and #27, slightly bigger miss to #29 after off line, whacked shin on a tree branch and hobbled a bit. Then run was summed up by losing well over a minute getting to the finish control...

Still not picking up some really obvious route choice options, need to force myself to look more thoroughly, probably be helped by looking ahead more often.

Garmin had me running 14.05km total distance.
Note
Random sighting of the day - a green woodpecker sitting right out in the open on the fence by the tennis courts in Barts this morning as I cycled into town...

Running 10:00 [2]

home to Angel & Greyhound meadow for the OUOC Summer Parks Race. Felt a bit rubbish...

OUOC Summer Parks Race - using the Oxford Parks (South, Headington Hill and University) and bits of the town between them. Took it pretty easy, having felt rough on the way down there. Slight confusion on the way to #3 but picked up the alley to the north eventually and a little difficulty at 8 as the map's a bit old... Otherwise no problems at all and by the end the running seemed a bit easier and the legs were moving relatively freely.

Actual distance run was 8.26km.

Warm up/down 10:00 [1]
Cycle to South Park, some jogging warm up and stretching, some warm down.
Running hills 25:00 [5]
shoes: Asics 1120
Maybe not the cleverest idea as a first proper training session after the weekend's activities. Also not a clever idea to wear trainers as South Park a little soggy. Pyramid in South Park - 2 sets of 30", 60", 90", 60" up then 30" downhill, with jog back recoveries.

First set: 30" (58"), 60" (1'45"), 90" (2'25"), 60" (37"), 30" (2'30" between sets)

Second set: 30" (78"), 60" (1'57"), 90" (2'37"), 60 (40") 30" and rest

Legs felt really heavy at the beginning of the second set, so decided that would be it for the session. Meant went off a bit more slowly than would have otherwise bu this generally meant the interval was more evenly paced and ran past people towards the end of the rep. Distance marker - 360m, 25m climb on first 90" rep, about 10-15m shorter second time round. Times clearly show recoveries needed were a bit longer on second set too...

Note
Put out controls in the rain for the summer series event at Cutteslowe. Some annoying gits piked two of the punches less than 20mins after I'd put them out - fortunately that was all that went missing...

Event went pretty well, many map corrections needed though, that's what happens with a quick survey...

Hill walking (Bob Graham Recce) 3:50:00 [2]* 17.5 km (13:09 / km) +1475m 9:15 / km
shoes: 2007 Falcons
The 'important' part of the weekend - running Leg 1 of the Bob Graham from Keswick to Threlkeld - given this is the part I'm supporting on in 3 weeks time. Slightly shorter than the actual route - started at the Latrigg car park 200m higher than Keswick itself. Motorway-like path up to Skiddaw, diverted over Little Man (43 mins) and then onto Skiddaw (59 mins from car park). Really enjoyable run down off Skiddaw to Hare Crag and then up Great Calva (42 mins) before descending through the heather to the Caldew, up onto Mungrisdale Common and towards Atkinson Pike onto Blencathra (72 mins).

Slow (45 mins) descent down Halls Fell to Threlkeld, primarily because it was very very windy - almost got blown off the tops of Great Calva and Blencathra - so was perhaps overly cautious in the rocky scramble near the top of Halls Fell. Perhaps Doddick Fell, even though a bit further, would provide a faster descent especially if the weather was crap? - Jon M got down in about 30 mins on this route.

Apart from the wind/top of Halls Fell, probably the most enjoyable of the three days. Am hoping for good weather in June now :)
