Shining Cliff "Black" course
Remember this being a fairly tough-going area with plenty of unmapped grotty bits and a dodgy map. The map had been re-surveyed so was hoping for an improvement in the latter. Area is still pretty rough underfoot - mainly bramble but a fair amount of fallen branches and moss-covered scree slope, which wasn't great in the wet/mud.
I hadn't been feeling great during the week and this was hard going from the get-go. Tricky slopes meant focus was more on staying upright than on the navigation. Hesitant as it was, first few controls were ok, but I was struggling to run even on the paths. Line to 4 wasn't good, distracted by someone just before 7 when on line lost 1', grotty line through to 12 ost time too. Over the top to 14 felt a real effort.
All this not helped by right shoe slowly separating into two parts. Just before 18, the sole was only attached at the toe. For some reason, carried on through the grot to 19. Looked at the rest of the course at this point, nothing overly interesting so straight back from there.
Distance/time to #18 - was a walk / jog downhill for the mile after that.
Map generally better regarding features being there / in the right place. There were a few areas of detail on the steeper slopes which were obvious on the ground but not so on the map - old version looks to have exaggerated these a bit more.
