"Scheyville National Park". Div 3: 4.2km, +60m, 11c. 27th/32 (21:27 behind Lee Coady). 18°C. TE 3.1.
Been here a few times for LANSW state XC championships, but never really left the building precinct. So no advantage. E part of the map quite tricky as the long grass and boggy ground made bearings difficult to hold and hid many features. Blew a chance for a good result with big loss of concentration at #5.
#1 - Straight. #2 - Followed main road to bend then compass. #3 - Followed bearing towards an obvious thicket but there was no control. Circled around for a while before realising that the correct thicket was within a white area. Still don't understand why the wrong thicket wasn't mapped (lost 5:10). #4 - Straight. #5 - Followed track up the hill but then got really confused. Went right instead of left. Took a long time to successfully relocate with a track (lost 14'). #6 - Straight. #7 - Followed a faster parallel track to the red line running along a WC. #8 - Straight. #9 - Followed yellow to corner. #10 - RHS of dam to track junction. #11 - Tracks. #F - Fast run along track to yellow above parade ground. Est time lost: 19:10.
