slept:5.8 weight:66kg shoes: Asics Gel-Excite 9

World Cross Country Championships, Mt Panorama, Bathurst. Day 3 of 3. 6.30am-12.30pm. 29°C.
Junior races (800m, 2km, 4km), masters championships (4km, 6km) & open men/women (10km/10km). Not as hot as the previous days but there were still a few medical retirements.
Weekend driving: 456km, 8hrs.
Headlines: Labor to invest $1b in energy storage (election pitch) / Lyon's turn - Veteran skittles India as tourists roar back (2nd Test v India, cricket)

A big head-on accident happened right in front of me near the top of the Chifley Road hill just after Lithgow. A camper trailer being towed by a 4WD started rolling on a bend and collided with a car coming down the other way. Being the first car below the accident I made sure no more cars would come up to the accident site. Others attended to the occupants while I called 000. The 4WD occupants seemed unhurt after a 3/4 roll but the car occupants were trapped until the ambos arrived. I'm surprised the driver was conscious (and alive) after the bouncing trailer smashed through the front windscreen. Road still closed in both directions more than 7 hours after the accident.

World Cross Country Championships, Mt Panorama, Bathurst. Day 2 of 3. 8am-7pm. 35°C. 26%rh.
Masters relays and para events in the morning (2x2km, 4x2km, 2km). Elite championship races in the afternoon (4x2km relay, 6km, 8km, 10km, 10km). Several junior athletes collapsed at the back end of the course in the vineyard between 2 steep climbs requiring medical and ambulance attention. 8 out of 59 U20W failed to finish. A gutsy call by the comp director to bring forward the women's start by 5' and the men's by 20' to try to complete the events before an approaching thunderstorm and clear the mountain. A couple of lapped Fijians refused to come in putting themselves and officials at risk. Medal ceremonies postponed until later. Highlight of the day was the 3rd place by Australia in the mixed 4x2km relay (Ollie Hoare, Jess Hull, Stewie McSweyn, Abbey Caldwell).
Headlines: Liberals in disarray as scandals snare MPs / Warner in the wars as Aussie batters take the fight to India's spin weapons (2nd Test v India, cricket)
