Trail Run 1:56:03 [1] 10.7 mi (10:51 / mi) +357m 9:50 / mi

Since it was 60 and then rained and then was sunny and windy, I figured the Blue Hills would probably be runnable. Took a train to Quincy Adams, bus to the start of the Skyline trail and set off.

There was a lot of snow.

Portions of the trail were perfectly fine and dry, and good amounts were snowcovered. Other parts were in between, some mud, some standing water. I tried to avoid the mud, and mostly did (muddy trails are easy to damage) and was in decent shape going over to the western part when I decided to run up the mountain instead of following yellow triangles.

That was fine, but then I got lost on the top, and found a nice stream on the trail I wanted to follow down. Splish, splash! My feet good and wet, I ran the road back to the median back to Mattapan, hopped on a train, and was home in 40 minutes.

Now, I have this idea of a Skyline-to-Skyline run. Basically, run the Skyline Trail in the Fells and Blue Hills in a single day. Doable as a 50ish k, which is a lot (and lots of pavement). As Alex pointed out, doable with Hubway bikes and snacks in the middle. I do like snacks! Also doable with the T in the middle.

Although, if we really wanted to get after it, we could make it an orienteering race in the Fells, then a city adventure orienteering race from there to the Blue Hills (i.e. use transit, blue bikes or your feet) which could also hit up some mapped areas on the way (Harvard, Olmsted Park, Peter's Hill) and then more orienteering in the Blue Hills. Almost a Hammer-style race.
