Got a late-ish start in the morning, so it was warming up, but still winter wonderland. I went to get Hill Farmstead at the local general store (since we missed the brewery yesterday) and saw the Pisten Bully at Highland Lodge. So, uh, yeah, I was skiing that. I got dropped off at East Craftsbury Road and skied up to the lodge, and back.
The first hour up to the lodge was slow, but wonderful. Great kick, but soft tracks. First one out, but a busload of people (well, maybe a dozen) were coming down the trail at me towards the lodge. Nothing groomed past the lodge, but the Pisten Bully had gone up another trail so, so did I.
Turns out, the PB went around the long way. So did I. Now it was getting warm in the sun. 40˚, but late March and it was sucky and soft and then sometimes my wax would ice up, and there's a lot of climbing around that way. Rossa went on, which sort of helped the climbing (but not so much the icing) and finally I got back on the main trail down towards the village.
The down was kind of slow, oh well, but at least pretty fun. The shade was still reasonable. The last bit up to the Center was a slog. I skated quite a bit of it because there was no kick and it was real slow. 22.5 miles, felt like about 40.
