Run 38:08 [1] 4.9 mi (7:47 / mi)

Nice little jogaroo to TJs. Was going to be morning but with calls emails it was midday.
6 PM

Ski warm up/down 18:20 [1] 3.3 mi (5:33 / mi) +52m 5:18 / mi

28 minutes to Weston because yes I know all the back ways out of Cambridge and if Waze has filled up one well I know the next one.

Warm up on a slightly longer loop. Still no Mount Weston. Wonder if we'll even ever get Mount Weston this year. Maybe the week after next?

Ski race 16:54 [4] 3.9 mi (4:20 / mi) +59m 4:08 / mi

Worlds again. I had an event in Somerville so I was ready to ski fast, get changed, and peel out of the parking lot, because the food at this event is excellent (I missed the hors d'oeuvres, though, as a friend put it, "so many oysters" so I will lobby for a not Tuesday next year, not that I have any say in the matter).

Anyhow, race started around some adaptive skiers, and the three of us who were top three last week led out. On the hard skis, which were reasonably fast but not super speedy, and no real hills to drop people. In third of a big pack and then a guy cut me off on a corner after I had let someone else go and I had words, and fell behind him and Rob for a lap or so, but when John and Martin were making a break I found the hard snow and went around them on a hill to join.

Break of four, same as last week, I think, and hung together into the last lap of five. A longer course (0.8 mi, an extra hill, but still 3 minute laps, because it was fast) and we went around the pylon and into the last lap. John was in front of me, Martin to my left, and he caught an edge, wobbled, and then didn't save it. Last lap, take no prisoners, part of Weston is staying upright. But that slowed me down enough I had to burn a lot of matches to try to catch John.

Never really did, and was red lining where the lights get a bit flashy, so that was fun (HRM worked again, peaked at 168, which is L4 for me) and I was maybe 20m behind John and started sprinting when he took a left for another lap. I slowed down and went across the line and so did everyone behind me, confirming that, yes, that was five laps. It was just fast.

So I gave John's name, and then mine (he had me beat) and then threw my skis in a bag and ran downstairs and changed (forgot shoes so went in tennies, but seriously, how often do you really look at a man's shoes? and was there in 23 minutes. Yup, not rush hour anymore.

Don't look now but without any fluoros I'm in second place on the World Championships points list.
