Kind of a struggly ski. I had bought a weekly Commuter Rail pass and wanted to make good use of it (sunk cost!) so I took the train from Porter out to West Concord to check out the new bridge over Route 2 on the Bruce Freeman. Oh, I had forgotten my gloves. But I was prepared to suffer/no-pole.
The bridge is almost done, but some sections of gravel (about 50m, easy to walk) and some binder course (nice to pole). My pole tips need to be sharpened. I was able to DP 10k and stop and drink lots of water, then mostly no-pole back, but I did manage to get one blister on my finger. Definitely hot.
The new trail is nice, pretty flat, but wide and good pavement and not many road crossings. Nicely accessible from West Concord, and a nice 2:10 gap between trains there. A bit shorter out at South Action or Littleton but I could make something there work. Didn't explore south, was tired and hot and just waited for the train. There is a bubbler in West Concord which is nice.
I got home and found that I had had my gloves.
