Great day with Alex & CSU up to Waterville. Good call–2 hours and good snow. It was a bit icy and lots of death cookies; it could have used another pass, but for the second weekend skiing in a row in early December it's hard to complain. First we skated up Snows, which was nice, all in a line of mostly CSU skiers with me, Jamie, Alex and juniors. Got to the top and my foot hurt from the boot maybe being on weird or too tight, so while they took a picture, I readjusted my boot, then skied down with Jamie and complained about having pain because hey, I'm a master now!
Had to pass a guy going down who was snowplowing slowly, so I turned around and skated about 100m uphill, turned back hoping to swoop down the hill and people were still waiting. Well, snowplow it is.
Anyway, then we sort of split up and I wound up skiing up the little hill (Osceola) on my own, then skipped going down the flat trail because eff that and there was lots of hay showing. So I went up Tripoli, thinking I was chasing most of the CSUers. Then I got to the top, and my that is a climb, and hadn't seen them, and cruised down and saw them maybe a third of the way up. I went to the bottom and, hell, went up again. This time I ran in to a guy who I'd passed twice, both times one of us shooting down something as the other climbed. He looked like a good skier and hey it's NHPR's own Sam Evans-Brown! Skied up with him but he was on his first Tripoli and I let him go for the top. Also, he's a really good skier.
Passed CSU coming down near the top and the junior I'd caught up with turned back. But I was one pitch from the top and went up, because I wanted to do a double-Tripoli. And I did! It was cold. I god to the bottom and and was cold and Alex was skiing uphill so I did too to round off 22 miles / 35k. Not bad.
Then we got hot cocoa and drove home. Then I went to Russos and bought all the vegetables and roasted all the vegetables.
