Trail Run 36:43 [3] 2.3 mi (15:58 / mi) +563m 9:04 / mi

There was a lot of talk of trail running and FKTs around the woodstove last evening, and at one point I floated the idea of waking up, stocking up the wood stove, driving up to Pinkham, running up and down Tucks, then coming down to a warm OH. It was agreed this was an excellent idea.

Snow was just starting, and the trail was well packed by snowmobiles going up. So basically, a 4k, 600m climb of awkward skate if you really wanted to. I ran instead. Nice L3 effort, basically the same speed as a few years back (but with softer footing). Spent some time bare-chested at HoJo's letting the light snow cool me down.

Trail Run 15:01 [1] 2.3 mi (6:32 / mi)

But the real fun was the descent. With soft packed snow, it was just full speed down. No rocks or technical things to worry about. Just full bore power. Peter beat me down, but there were times I'd leap from a waterbar at a 5 minute mile and just fly through the air. Fell once, but no worries, soft snow. Slower than skiing, barely. Most excellent: no ITB issues.

Ski 2:16:54 [1] 16.5 mi (8:18 / mi) +641m 7:24 / mi

After the morning's fun, it was snowing harder, so I went to ski the Hall-Keeney loop. Twice, once anti-clockwise, then turned around and skied it back as the snow filled it in. Slow, but excellent, skating, good deck forming, and lots of new snow. 4" by the time I was done and just dumping big, fluffy flakes. At the rate things are going, Jackson may have the Hall Trail open in full by next week.

Ski 35:38 [1] 5.7 mi (6:15 / mi) +69m 6:02 / mi

Quick cruise out the Ellis and back to Jackson, then taping a podcast with Ben from the Birkie. Lots of podcasts coming out shortly!

Ski 1:30:27 [1] 13.1 mi (6:54 / mi) +449m 6:14 / mi

Wave had been groomed, so up there. Three times around the race course, the first two pushing the uphills. Amazing late day views of the very white White Mountains, a couple of sketchy points but fast and fun.

Then off to the OH where there were three friends getting in at the same time, so good company, and lots of help to stoke the fire. Outside temperature: 10. Inside temperature: 70.

Run 44:13 [1] 2.0 mi (22:06 / mi) +751m 10:12 / mi

Still some snow on the lower reaches of the stadium, but mostly runnable. I skipped anything with much snow, ran down full sections with no snow, and covered a full tour and back to 25, keeping track of the steps I skipped (276) and doing some subtraction. Once you start running downhill, you lose any recovery and keep the HR up.

Ski 46:14 [1] 7.3 mi (6:20 / mi) +98m 6:05 / mi

Round and round we go. 30 minutes no poles, two laps double pole, three laps skating, with speeds. Despite warm temps, it was still pretty solid. Good Weston conditions. And I got my new Salomons mounted, but they're not coming out until real snow.

Ski warm up/down 17:57 [1] 3.0 mi (5:59 / mi) +48m 5:42 / mi

Strava is getting better at elevation at Weston.

Ski race 11:12 [4] 2.5 mi (4:29 / mi) +34m 4:18 / mi

World champs! Many more people this year than last year for the first week. Warm—in the 40s—but Weston managed not to go out and groom right before or some such so it stayed mostly hard and fast, just how we like it! Started with the pack and found myself in second at one point. I discovered the fast, icy track coming down he hill by Mount Foljms, but then everyone else did, too. Lagged a bit towards the end, though, and was at the end of a train of four in 6th or so. A couple of college kids in town, too. Ringers.

Ski warm up/down 11:58 [1] 1.6 mi (7:29 / mi) +24m 7:09 / mi

A few more laps, then off to Neighbor Night.

Ski 53:00 [3] 7.8 mi (6:48 / mi) +87m 6:34 / mi

Slow, soft skiing. Went out for a lap, saw Cary, skied with Cary. Cary doesn't seem to have a low gear and dragged me around in L3 or close to it, which I wouldn't have done on my own.
