Ski-O 24:56 [1] 2.2 mi (11:20 / mi) +115m 9:45 / mi

I wanted to get some ski-o in before World Cups since I haven't done ski-o since (checks log) 2016 team trials. So I figured I'd be rusty. I was wishy-washy if I'd go but then Ken said he'd set 29 controls and groomed his trails and Vermont isn't that far so away I went!

He had four courses planned, and a few inches of wet powder over a solid base, and groomed his trails one snowmobile wide "just to make it difficult for you" and I got a late start but went to ski the courses. I was real rusty. The first controls were a mess. Also, I had all four maps showing on my map board and when I spun the board I was extremely confused. But by the end of the first course I was beginning to remember what this was about.

Ski-O 24:15 [1] 2.2 mi (11:01 / mi) +100m 9:39 / mi

Third and fourth courses felt better. It helped to know the course, but also made better decisions, read ahead to make sure I was hitting the controls in the right direction, and analyzed route choices. I felt a lot better at the end than at the beginning!

(Also, it's nice when my elevation is 327 feet, that's an easy one to convert to meters!)

Ski-O 12:35 [1] 1.2 mi (10:29 / mi) +60m 9:05 / mi

Skied course 1 again, 1:30 faster than the first time around, so that's good. Definitely feeling better and looking forward now to WC in a few weeks.

Also, if I can get an 8:00 start time on Wednesday I can make it back for my class, unless I have meetings before that …

Ski 26:12 [1] 2.7 mi (9:42 / mi) +156m 8:14 / mi

Ken has hills! I took a spin around his trails—well groomed, but pretty grabby, except where the aspect had melted and iced, where it was fast, but then the grabby would lurch you—and boy does he have hills! Thanks, Ken, for the skiing and trails!

Run 50:42 [1] 6.0 mi (8:27 / mi) +42m 8:16 / mi

Poorly-spent day but a good run. Even got an assist making a light on Comm Ave by a BPD cop (he didn't know he was being helpful, but he was). Started snowing during the run. Too bad it's going to be 60 next week. But thank goodness here and not Birkieland.

GAH, so, now on the Wednesday of SkiO WC I now have a can't-miss meeting. If somehow it gets scheduled for later in the afternoon and I can get the first start time, I have a chance of skiing the middle, driving 4 hours south, showering, changing in to a suit, and making it on time.

Run warm up/down 25:10 [1] 3.3 mi (7:38 / mi) +10m 7:33 / mi

Went out for a run a few minutes later than I'd wanted, since I was driving a car full of classmates to our professor's house for Chinese New Year. So I had to run my loop fast. Warmed up, then hit my stride for 2 miles along the river at L3. Felt good, and got home pretty fast, too. Now Strava isn't talking to Garmin, so I can't look at my HRM.

Then I drove the kids to Newton without Google Maps and they were duly impressed. One of them is running Boston! Little did I know …

Run 13:09 [3] 2.0 mi (6:34 / mi)

The fast part of the run.

Run 43:06 [1] 1.5 mi (28:44 / mi) +567m 13:13 / mi

Easy stadiums. Still got 40 sections in. There was something about valentines I missed, but that's okay.

Ski warm up/down 27:05 [1] 4.6 mi (5:53 / mi) +68m 5:38 / mi

Trying to get out early, got a call from the vice chair of the state house transportation committee, so I took that, I guess. Call went a bit long but still got close to 30 minutes of warm up, with a couple of speeds.

Ski 20:33 [3] 4.6 mi (4:28 / mi) +68m 4:16 / mi

Race out! Guy in a Loppet suit went out real fast, and we were all racing for second. My skis—new Salomons—were fast where it was hard but super slow in the new snow. And I think my legs were tired from the intervals on Saturday. I fell off the pack, got passed by Mark, caught back up with Mark, tried to catch Steven, didn't quite catch him, and took Mark in the sprint, barely. Haven't done a full on sprint like that in a while. Hit 170 on the hrm.

Ski 15:18 [1] 2.2 mi (6:57 / mi) +31m 6:40 / mi

Went out after the race to forerun for the second race. Free pass to yell at people, woo! I yelled at one woman who was skiing the wrong way on the course and some other people who were no-poling to get out of the way. Taking it seriously, and they seemed to clear off. Then I ate sweet potatoes.
