Note

Vert update.

October was a setback for vert. This was mostly because I decided to PR the half, which meant a week of tapering and a week of recovery. So instead of 12k I wound up with more like 9k. Which means I need (as of Nov 5) something like 408m/day (23222m to go). Which is a lot, although I've averaged more than that so far this month (small sample size).

But! Plans are in my favor:

* I'll throw down at least one vertical mile at ye olde stadium this month, hopefully.
* I'm not injured! IT band didn't help vert last year.
* No family trip to NYC this year for Thanksgiving means I can find some local trails to run or maybe go north and find some less-local ski trails to ski.
* Maybe some cold weather will get Wachusett to lay down some snow for early morning Aims-style skiing.
* Also planning a mileage run trip to BZN for the end of the month.

If I can get 12000m this month I think I can swing this with December upcoming (usually a good month!).

Trail Run 1:23:20 [1] 7.8 mi (10:41 / mi) +408m 9:11 / mi

Off to Blue Hills for some trails with Gabriel. Magically got a perfect parking spot in the tiny lot. Mostly dry except the wet places which were … wet. Took him around yellow, up over the hill to the tower, then down and around and back on Skyline, and up a bit on the other side of the road. Legs started out a bit tired but ended up decent.

Rollerski 2:23:11 [1] 21.1 mi (6:47 / mi) +422m 6:23 / mi

Quite the day. Out Route 2 at 45 because it was raining so hard. It had stopped when I showed up at Littleton, just in time for a downpour on the downhill. Slow and slippery, character-building skiing. Definitely Type 2 fun.

Went straight to go long with Frank, a couple of juniors lagging with a broken pole tip. Rain had let up and it was a halfway okay day, not too cold. Quite slow, since we could barely kick and the rain increased rolling resistance, but otherwise pretty okay skiing, if wet. Next time I want to check out the route up Picnic and down Hill, which looks like it's been repaved.

Finished just as I heard my friend's train rolling in for a ride up to NH for the evening.

Bicycle 15:16 [1] 2.6 mi (5:52 / mi) +85m 5:20 / mi

Dumb: waking up at 4 to run the "WOahMAN."

Dumber: eating dinner at 11 pm and doing it on 4 hours sleep.

Dumber yet: biking over in the pouring rain, forgetting a watch, going home to get said watch because if it's not on Strava it didn't happen.

Run 1:48:38 [1] 8.7 mi (12:29 / mi) +764m 9:49 / mi

Felt pretty awful for the NP_Tri today. Not fully digested dinner, not nearly enough sleep; bad combination. Late so started on my own, in a downpour. Didn't take water bottle.

I needed water. It stopped raining and I guzzled water by the stop halfway through the stadium. My legs are pretty shot from this week, so I didn't exactly power around the stadium. Then more water, and some slow-ish hills and slow burpies.

No PR. Can't PR everything.

Note

Worth mentioning: 3 PRs in 10 days: Half, 5k, Stadium.

Bicycle 2:38:31 [1] 42.0 mi (3:46 / mi) +347m 3:41 / mi

Riding bikes! Met a fellow Mac grad at a Mac grad event a few weeks and we got to talking about bikes and skis. She races bikes but stooped to my level for a morning ride, out through the hills and dales. Still dark at 6:30, as I should know better (had lights, didn't take them off until well after 7). Warm morning, and we mostly beat the rain until the last bit in to Arlington. Then I got to ride the Arlington bus/bike lane, which was pretty darned nice.

Run hills 23:05 [4] 1.5 mi (15:23 / mi) +524m 7:23 / mi

PR day at NP and I was ready. Early alarm, got in the first row (what is a nice way to say to people "please self-seed"?) and was off.

First four sections in <2. That wasn't going to be held.

There were no section markers to 8, so I really only had the midpoint to pace off of. I was at 19 in about 11. I thought my PR was in the 22 range but couldn't remember. Either that or 23:22 was a number I was remembering, maybe that was the 22. In any case, my legs were maybe still a little tired from Sunday and Monday. HR was 155 (compared to my PR last year when it was 163) so I was going hard but not all-out redlined, which was probably the legs.

Stopped my watch. 23:05 and change. Good, and maybe a PR.

Got home (after all the clothes). Looked up PR from last year. 23:06. So, less than a second.

November may be fun.

Fit in a run before class.

Run 16:04 [1] 2.1 mi (7:39 / mi)

Run to NP. Fire alarm malfunctioned at 5:30. That was fun.

At least the Sportsball is over, so no more late nights.

Run 3:04 [1] 0.2 mi (15:20 / mi)

High knees and such.

Run 15:44 [1] 1.9 mi (8:17 / mi)

Running back and forth, and doing burpies. Goal was 300 in 35 minutes, which wasn't going to happen, but I wanted to get past 200. Got in 210. That's a lot. I might feel it tomorrow. Wet, but not too cold.

Core 14:40 [3]

210 burpies

Run 14:19 [1] 1.4 mi (10:14 / mi)

Run home, which was very slow and started with half a mile of walking.
5 PM

Run 27:50 [1] 3.2 mi (8:42 / mi) +16m 8:34 / mi

JP Licks had a two-for-one deal because Red Sox. My sister was running home(ish, to the Orange Line) and it was perfect distance to run to Assembly with her, 4.5 for her, 3 for me. Then we got two large ice creams for $6 (Jeremy came and helped) and had no trouble polishing them off.

Got to see new Orange Line cars, too! (But not ride them, yet.)
