Note

So People's Forest is this weekend, which I haven't run in years because I've been away, and is always a fun race, and is actually happening with covid but … driving 9 hours for a trail race is just not worthwhile. If I were in Boston I'd go, probably.
6 PM

Run 1:09:00 [3] 9.06 mi (7:37 / mi) +228m 7:04 / mi
ahr:117 max:129

Woo. Didn't run in the morning and it was much drier today, but still warm. Got kind of sidetracked and only had 79 minutes until the CSU zoom coach technique session.

So I started with the goal to finish in 69 minutes. Running CW, so as to miss the sun, ran the first mile under 9, so the new goal was no mile under 9. Then I got to the other side and decided to run a couple of miles hard. First one, with an overall climb, in 7:03, and the second one, where I thought I was starting with a downhill and ending with a downhill but actually ending with an uphill, in 6:52.

The goal was now to run only two miles over 8, and the climb up to Kent's Hill in 8:18, so I ran the next mile in 7:55, and now I wanted to finish sub-70, and finished in 69 flat, which I think is my fastest.

That's good, but I ran the loop from the road in 1:00:18, so room for improvement. (I found the FKT for the loop in 52:43, but to be fair they're not climbing the camp road and starting in the middle of the hill. Still 6:24s that's fast.)

Even had time to jump in the lake, but not really long enough to cool down. At least it's cool this evening. (Still during in the run in the mid-70s, with a breeze, and it felt nice and cool, so I guess I'm acclimated to summer now.)

Run 1:18:10 [1] 8.87 mi (8:49 / mi) +257m 8:05 / mi
ahr:162 max:168

Another 9 mile loop tried and succeeded. Nice bit on the trails, then a right at the south end.

Very very (very) humid and warm. Any time in the sun was friggin' brutal. Soaked in sweat at the end having gone through all my water. Straight into the lake.

Trail Run 1:21:52 [1] 5.48 mi (14:56 / mi) +533m 11:28 / mi
ahr:139 max:184

Hot day over to visit uncle/cousins in Bridgton. I figured I'd swing up and over Pleasant Mountain first. It was mostly shaded and breezy, so not too bad, and the first mile rises 1200 feet so that was fun. Halfway up I see my cousins! Say "see you soon" and keep going since it was now a race (I was going a slightly longer way). Of course, they stopped to pick blueberries beyond just the once they reached out (so many!) so it took them a good deal longer.

Then down the other trail, back on the road. Warm, but not terrible. Ran with a drink belt which was bouncy but also not terrible.

There would be a very fun figure 8 to do over Pleasant some day. But it's a bit of a drive.
4 PM

Swim 20:11 [1] 0.4 mi (50:26 / mi)
ahr:179 max:208

My uncle wanted to swim across his lake, so we swam (slowly) across his lake.

Then I went out and got trashed waterskiing.

Rollerski 49:17 [1] 8.0 mi (6:10 / mi) +113m 5:54 / mi

Legs still jelly, short roll up top the camp road. Went out and back a few times on the flat bit, no poles, DP, DP, all, then finished up to Elvin's and back. Without gravel making the turn at the bottom is reasonable, but I wouldn't want to make a habit of it. Might bring a broom up to make sure there isn't gravel there. It's definitely banked. Took it at about 22 (it's signed for 25) and it's a little interesting.

Run 1:24:39 [1] 9.64 mi (8:47 / mi) +264m 8:06 / mi
ahr:179 max:188

Well, Tuesday beat my legs up pretty good. Like a 50 miler, which it almost was. Not as far, but longer, and lots of rocks, and some gnarly terrain, and scratches and bumps and all that kind of fun.

So I went out this afternoon trepidatiously. Up to the North Wayne Road and thinking I might turn around after a couple of miles, but might try a new loop through the Town Farm trails. Got into the trails, picked some raspberries (holy raspberries!) and then through onto the next road, and down a hill. I wasn't sure if this road went through, but took a left, and after about 500m of bad dirt road it got better, so pretty clearly, it did, despite not being shown as a through route on the Googles (and some portion on town maps is shown as private, but the ROW is perfectly intact).

Got to Sturtevant Hill, and up to 17, and a quick left onto Nickerson for the long slog up to the top of the hill, but it was reasonably cool, and my legs made it. Kind of.

Basically every loop here is 8-10 miles.
