Sunday Mar 7 #

8 AM

Ski 3:18:01 [1] 20.34 mi (9:44 / mi) +716m 8:47 / mi
ahr:123 max:198

Long ski with Mel, and Lincoln and Jess at the end. The Ellis was carpeted in wind storm debris which was frustrating, but the Hall Trail was lovely.
2 PM

Ski 1:08:22 [1] 9.08 mi (7:32 / mi) +482m 6:28 / mi
ahr:160 max:196

East Pasture, which is quite the climb; 1000' over 2 miles. Saw some NMUers in town, I wonder if Sten will send them up here. Probably not with NCAAs happening. Climb was pine needly, but the descent was superb. Some social hour, only some of it being talked at by some guy who Jess calls a troll. He says he knows Bob Burnham. Think Bob, but saying meaner things.

i.e. "Oh I must have passed you because you were with your slow wife."

She's not my wife, dude, and she's not slow.

Then loops around Windy Fields. Gorgeous day, but the debris on the trails made them less than stellar.

Saturday Mar 6 #

8 AM

Ski 2:21:29 [1] 15.19 mi (9:19 / mi) +498m 8:27 / mi
ahr:139 max:211

Long ski with Mel, big loop over most of the north end on the Livermore side, from staying with my parents right by the nordic center. Hard and fast, and cold, but the sun warmed us up somewhat. She insists that nordies should wear helmets, and I think needs more confidence going down hills on skinny skis.

Ski 45:03 [1] 3.89 mi (11:35 / mi) +79m 10:54 / mi
ahr:86 max:148

Teaching my brother in law how to ski. He has the legs down. The arms, on the other hand …
2 PM

Ski 50:19 [1] 5.19 mi (9:42 / mi) +197m 8:40 / mi
ahr:152 max:210

Skied a lap with Mel, then pulled the nephew in the pulk. He was happy until I stopped, then screamed for a while. Apparently he is doing better.

Thursday Mar 4 #

9 AM

Run 54:23 [1] 6.53 mi (8:20 / mi) +63m 8:05 / mi
ahr:182 max:204

Ran with sister in the morning. She drove down, lovely day for it.

Wednesday Mar 3 #

5 PM

Run 44:10 [1] 5.04 mi (8:46 / mi) +154m 8:00 / mi
ahr:180 max:201

Fartlek up and down some hills. Some stairs, too. It's nice to be near hills.

Tuesday Mar 2 #

7 PM

Ski 20:50 [1] 3.5 mi (5:57 / mi) +44m 5:44 / mi
ahr:138 max:198

Warming up, and it wasn't too cold; luckily the winds had subsided from earlier which would have been terrible. Snow fast, icy, sketchy.

Ski 24:59 [3] 5.21 mi (4:48 / mi) +53m 4:39 / mi
ahr:106 max:125

Race, not feeling very stable or ducky. Chased John coming through his second lap at the start. Turned in a fast mile but then it got progressively slower. A few hills got scraped off to ice and berms, and I wanted no business in falling.

Ski 15:37 [1] 2.3 mi (6:47 / mi) +25m 6:34 / mi
ahr:81 max:103

Skittering around afterwards.

Note

Okay, so, February is done. Since I set goals for February, time to review them:

Did I ski 500km? Yes, 519.

Did I ski five Birkies over the course of 10 days? Not quite. I skied three single skis >43k, one of which was 75k, and skied a total of 4.2 Birkies. The weather didn't exactly help.

Over 50h for the month (first time since Oct) and lots of vert, since some of that skiing was AT skiing. Over 20km D+, and that's without Wednesdays and Fridays. Highest distance month … ever.

So, March. I don't want to get too specific, because it's very weather-dependent. Warm and dry? Lots of Fells and Blue Hills time. Cold and moist? Heading north. I guess I'll go for 45h, 100 miles of running (since I want to run a 100m this summer for the ITRA points) and 10 concerted efforts at a core workout.
5 PM

Run 54:47 [1] 6.58 mi (8:20 / mi) +43m 8:10 / mi
ahr:156 max:203

Fun run today after some core work. Out along Comm Ave into the wind, then Harvard Bridge, then back with the wind, which was windy. But not too cold yet. Superb sunset over the partially melted river kept me turning back along the Esplanade.

And then with about a mile to go I … had to go. Not a lot of trees to duck behind, and I almost went behind a highway ramp but it was right next to the other highway ramp, and eventually I just ran all the way back and micturated with selerity.
