Running 35:00 [3] 7.5 km (4:40 / km) +90m 4:24 / km

This was my first training run in over a week due to the swelling(?) on my right heel, to a nearby mobile phone mast and back. The time is a complete guess as I forgot to stop my watch when I got back!

I haven't run since last Wednesday due to this blasted swelling on my right heel. Since I have over 12km to run on Sunday, I figured I'd better get some training in! During the week I bought myself some new socks, in the hope that they would provide more cushioning between my heel and shoe than current pairs and thus hurt the swelling less. That plan seems to have worked. Whilst running, I did notice the swelling, but it was more of a niggle than anything painful. It didn't really slow me down to any extent. I felt that I ran pretty well, although in places I was slowed by the paths being their usual muddy selves.

Circuits intervals 1:00:00 [3]

Had hoped for circuits without equipment this week, but sadly it didn't happen. A fairly standard session: 50s on 10s off for one circuit + 3. It felt harder than last week, due to the longer intervals and my lack of exercise this last week. The swelling or whatever on my heel wasn't such a problem (felt it most during Fast Feet) but that could be because I was wearing my circuits-only trainers.

There were noticeably less people there than usual, what with it being Valentine's Day. That was a good thing in one way - you can do sprint-the-long-sides-jog-the-short so much better when there are a lot less people to bump into.

Orienteering 3:00:00 [3] **
shoes: New Balance RX Terrain

distracted's training session on Blackdown, along with Kat, BorisGr and a bunch of OUOC people.

I had some kind of swelling or something (for simplicity I'll refer to it as a swelling from now on) on the back of my right heel. It makes walking in pretty much any pair of shoes I have painful, although it is no problem with no shoes on. I sometimes have blisters there but I don't think the problem is a blister since the skin feels hard, but nonetheless it is quite painful. This has kept me from training these last few days, so I didn't run particularly hard at any point today.

First exercise was contouring. I didn't get on too well with this one, the pain from the swelling was very distracting and there didn't seem to be much in the way of fast running you could do on the side of the hill since the wet weather made it quite slippery. I walked most of this one.

Second exercise was relocation. I went round with a group of people and managed to do some running. The swelling didn't feel too bad here.

Third exercise was a change-of-pace exercise with a mixture of long and short legs. Because of the swelling I cut out one control which would have involved dropping down about 6 contours and then going straight back up.

I quite liked most of the area (it was home to the 1974 British Champs, trivia fans). It was just a shame about the raining, swelling, felling and the out-of-date map. Nonetheless, thanks to distracted for organising an excellent day of training.
