A very disappointing run over-all. I only made two mistakes on the course, but both very costly. Felt slow again today, but tried to keep moving at a solid pace. Same problems with map-reading as yesterday to begin with, but it got slightly better for a while.
My first mistake was a classic parallell error, stopping on a ridge too early looking for control # 4 about 100m from the correct spot. Once I relocated I made a stupid extra loop to add another 1½ min to my mistake for a total of 3:00!
After an extremely slow leg to # 5 I started moving again to # 6 and hit the control flag right on - but the control code was wrong!! (139 instead of 129) Looking at my map I tried to see if I could be somewhere else in the relatively flat area around the control, but nothing made sense. I made a lame 'search loop' (about 5:00 'missed') but came back to the same spot - so I decided to punch and continue assuming there was something wrong with control codes.
I had a decent last part of the course, but found out when I finished that I had MISPUNCHED - for only the second time in 40 years :(
The best part of the weekend was the success for both Anders and Maria. Maria placed 4th in D14 on Saturday and 8th on Sunday - both times on courses that were way more difficult than she has ever run before.
Anders placed 3rd on Saturday in a tough H16 field only 57 sec behind the winner and 2nd on Sunday even closer, only 4 sec behind!
