Apparently, my watch recorded heart rate in the bag without a strap - not entirely sure how but not including that data.

Did with Luke - we plotted the whole course was 34km but that really means closer to 40 knew I probably had a real 30 maybe slightly over in the tank given my lack of fitness and an extra couple of kgs.

Started hard behind Will and Dave and got lost on the way to first point #62. #silyl corrected and then was smooth in.

62 - 105: Solid mainly road executed quite well and started to get head into game - felt a bit short and left but ok.

105 - 43 Didn't read the description so overshot a little correct lost a few more minute but got it ok.

43 - 53 Found a bit of a groove here, still moving well and felt pretty strong. still about 20 minutes down on schedule. not great this early.

53 - 95 Really should've dropped 95 it was a long leg and there were better points elsewhere. All the same, we executed it really well.

95 - 82 Perfect leg jogs the road nailed control felt good - massively down on time.

82 - 42 North only the firing range track crossed in at t-junction. Gosh, that watercourse was hard work / a bit of a bitch. Just thick soft shit.

42 - 104 Back to the track to our east and followed that to corner cut through to road, got a bit confused but corrected quickly and hit the point probably lost a tiny bit of time here but generally was quite clean.

104 - 55 Probably a bit slower than it should have been but bang on when we got there.

55 - 90 Decided to use the road more than had planned because was moving fast again hit it reasonable well a bit off to the left but nearly flush.

90 - 41 flawless maybe a tad slow but really good leg.

41 - 52 The first drop as had planned 61 but wanted to get some time back. Hit 52 flush and did our water refill. Was roughly 1 hour down at this point. did the maths and if we could do 6km this next hour we would only need straight line 5.25 for the hour after with a heavy drop.

52 - 81 Used tracks hit it cleanly and fast happy with the leg. Think Andre may have legit been lost here?

81 - 103 Again used tracks all the way to 103 and then last bit in the bush - spiked it.

103 - 63 Across bush and then right at track another good solid leg.

63 - 56 along the road and in hit the point flush again. 2 minutes past the hour so effectively bang on time knew there was a massive climb to come so had been speaking strategy to Luke as I was really starting to feel gassed now and was on my 3rd carbo shot.

56 - 83 Apparently there was an unmapped out of bounds? not sure but maybe we went through it not sure - but we moved pretty well. This was the big climb so gave my pack to Luke and got him to push me int he back. The leg took 20 mins which were a bit too long but neither of us completely destroyed so we had some hope to get in on time of max 5 late.

83 - 51 took a few minutes longer than I had hoped (like 2) and this was a bit concerning as I knew it was cutting it was too thin - told Luke I would jog what I could 1 min plus on 1 min tops off and called for assistance whenever needed.

51 - 73 5 minutes later than we hoped with 15 mins left in the race I knew we were not making the start. Feeling really gassed fitness but physically good mentally sharp from all the caffeine.

73 - 72 Rolled my ankle halfway along and tried to keep jogging when I could but this was sore and I was really struggling - more walking on this leg than I wanted. Awesome spot on control but the river was a bitch - we found a clearing and got a little owned crossing because of blackberries but didn't land in the drink thankfully but time was now 5hr 59. With over 1km to get in a slight climb out.

72 - HH Dropped 34 which we wanted. also, the original route was 34-30-74-92-31 so ended up dropping 6 in total. This leg just became a matter of giving what you can and get in as fast as you can to minimise loss. I had a small mouthful vom on this leg as I said just absolutely finished on the fitness and just couldn't give more - was using assist and jogging when I could. Go in 14:19 late and lost 150 annoying - only 2nd time I've come in late.

So result - 5th overall and 3M. had we been 20s faster would have got 4th. So really annoyed at that - 3rd was unreachable even if we had been in on time and got 34 we would have been 10points short of them. Overall very happy with performance gave every last bit I could nav was reasonably clean for most of the day and it was an enjoyable session.

Thank you to the setters you did a good job! Really liked the all day time 6hr in winter can we have again, please?!
