Probably walked about 40km this week in different cities as we did the rounds.

However have eaten like 5 course meals 3 times a day for a week - feeling like a whale...

Cant wait to get to somewhere with a gym or some warmth..

*didnt log the Monday walk which was a good 15-20km over about a 7hr+ period.

So had a sore throat and sore knees...

Have had a bad 2 weeks of 6 x Xmas party and putting on about 3kg...

but new i felt fitter and faster post sydney... time to test it out even though not in ideal form. 5km Loop near my house.

Admit felt very average when I started and course had slightly more headwind that tail wind but relatively balanced.

Did find I was critiquing myself as I ran my right leg felt like it wasn't landing straight infact the strike felt very strange - maybe thats why that knee is getting sore... also gosh I am lazy not lifting knees or having any kick. but I was moving well and I could tell I was faster than normal.

To my amazement it was the fastest running time I have had since getting my garmin (over 2 yrs ago) on any course. clocking in at a pace of 5:13/km when previously best clocked on garmin was 5:53/km - happy days.

I know on a different 5km course non-logged ive run sub 5 which is when I know I am really getting back on my game... tbh I felt the fitness was there the technique and a slight bit of strength wasnt - hopefully the xmas tripa way doesnt set me back feeling good on the improve. wanting 4:45..

Orienteering race (Leichhardt) 49:32 [5] 7.71 km (6:25 / km) +384m 5:09 / km
ahr:166 max:177 shoes: Brooks Glycerin 12

Running felt very comfortable - felt actually like the pace was faster than last weeks - so a tad surprised that it wasnt, there was a few more hills but I dont think the elevation is correct above.

Made some massive brain farts, on the first 2 controls then later in the course. A good runner would have cleared this course easily in time. I should have finished my route which only dropped 4 within the 45 minutes but for the first two controls, then making a strategically very very very bad route choice adding a few hundo m to route plan then reading map upsidedown and searching out of bounds rather than a car park whoops... what a muppet!

all in all though great day for a run and felt very good particularly given how sore my legs are and how unhealthy my diet (food and drinks have been for last week and a half) - surprised I didn't have a heart attack...

Looks like ave heart rate and max have come down a bit too which is good even though was striding out a bit in sections.

Same knee same problems - blah, though surg knee might have had issues after it was run into a metal pole early this week, but my knee was rock solid today.

Definitely got a blister going on so these shoes might be already feeling the wear! darn. Thicker socks again.

also the rego system is officially cool - every SI card which is in the eventor system is on this, so u walk past table pay for race and sign a form, punch a SI reader on the next table and say category - job done. Probably the most efficient registration I have seen at any sporting event I have ever been too.

Orienteering race (Randwick) 42:53 [4] 7.0 km (6:08 / km) +179m 5:26 / km
ahr:162 max:177 shoes: Brooks Glycerin 12

wow the weather was insane - got drenched just getting to the event and that was when i was trying to stay dry! - I think I was the last person stupid enough to sign up - lightning was hitting the area all around us and the thunder was swirling in all directions... I delayed my start until last possible moment - and thank you bom radar, you didn't lie - as I started the storm had pretty much cleared, not even real drizzle for a few minutes then just nice weather.

Shoes where soaked through and through which made my legs feel heavy though. Felt like a good run - added in points because I was up on my time budget, wasnt expecting ti to be a good run with the weather oh and a killer hang over.

Moving fairly well and eased back because I knew I had time. Annoyingly if I had pushed it and my course had allowed definitely had another km within the time limit maybe 1.5.

Even more annoyingly I had folded my map over a control near the start which was a 10 pointer which I could have 100% got with time to spare. SIGH it would have given me a few more spots on the score board as far as I can recall. #kickingselfstill.

Otherwise a really nice run.

My right (good) knee is getting progressively worse I am starting to think a scan is going to be inevitable at some point.

- I just realized that was the fastest I have gone in orienteering and here I am saying I had gas in the tank #happydays
- Also heavy shoes, probably didnt help the sore knee factor.
