Pretty gusty head wind. First time I felt low power from lack of energy for a while. Road closure still in place in KP so had to detour slightly.

Worked hard pretty much the whole ride starting with mount st - had a runner at the bottom just starting up the road at a reasonable pace so I said - you'll probably overtake me by the top and smiled as I went past - he said only if you do it seated the whole way. Deal I yelled back. Bastard caught me at the top - well done to him!

Otherwise really fluid run with lights et al - feeling pretty weak though.

Was fun having the helicopters swooping overhead as I went up May dr - at the top there was about 6 or so fire engines who signaled em to stop - asked if the eastern bush path was safe or if I had to go back - he was happy me shooting to lovekin on the paved path.

Nice ride in - fire looked under control as it was very little smoke about. Wonder if it will throw a spanner in the works of the regular Tuesday afternoon runners as that is there starting area...

Ok so a bit of an altercation and I was in the wrong.

I went up mount st and could see as I went on to kpr that left lane had been witches hatted all the way down as lane was closed. void of fire trucks I decided it was safer to ride in the closed lane as hard against the witches cones as possible as the traffic was banked hard in the open lane and not much room between cones and cars...

I felt it was the safest and most sensible option given the clear visibility for emergency vehicles that I would see.

I passed plenty of fire crews and the main assembly without incident and got to the end of kpr where the last bus stop was. a vollie had walked right into the lane and signalled me into the traffic I said to him im going straight at the lights e.g. 50m away. No I don't care get out of this lane. Its a $350 fine for you being in here. I replied im only here as its infinitely safer for me than weaving in the cars and cones. reply I don't care if a fire truck comes round that corner at 50km/hr its not safe for you or them.

Fair point but for the fact it is a sweeping bend and I would see the truck a mile off but no point in arguing I said my piece and I knew I was wrong and he was clearly in a pissy mood. Proceed to merge and slowly navigate the 50cms most cars had between there wing mirrors and cones much to the delight of the voll I am sure.

Anyway home pretty smoothly after that.

Slow jog with Will in the pram - lots of walking - gosh its a nice area on that hillside overlooking JTC - purposely slow as still not back to 100% - when will I get a clean health run for a while I dont know!

Looking forward to redoing this by myself at a bit of speed.

Late start because Will's first delay at new daycare delayed everything. Not feeling great but perked up on the way in.

Had a concrete truck decided it had right of way on a roundabout before it saw me. I decided I was better off braking early hearing a truck not breaking... I think if I had been a car there may have been an accident. All in all though a reasonably pleasant ride

Went out with a slow jog with Juffs

Hoping this would shake the minor vertigo ive had for a week and a half - didnt bother me while moving but apparently not enough to budge the crystals.

Pace was good certainly not taxing - even though my hr chart says otherwise. Timber didnt struggle with the heat (juffs may say otherwise). Had some interesting encounter with another dog owner who saw timber and took his dog off its lead?! wtf.

Anyway plodded along, legs could feel they were working by the cross to the north which was nice but had some serious stomach cramps on the basis of poor dinner last night, no breaky and poor lunch.... didnt plan that well!

Bailed out on long to medium to get back sooner so We could get the kids home for the evening routine, Nice course from Tash was expecting to have to go across west coast highway but tash managed it without that!

My tradition - The first ride of the year at CF.

(Last 2 years the only ride out there too!)

Went out with Dave. He obviously was stuck behind my fat ass the majority of the time. Trying out a few new things - bike computer upgrade, because both my roadie and mtb had broken computers got an edge. Also got a new set of shoes... I think they are slightly too big but better than pins and needles, though the sole at the heal in the right shoe feels weird - might have to see what I can do about that!

Was slow - to be expected, grip was better than I expected though typically in Jan its pretty loose but seemed friendly. must have been rickys constant pounding of the same tracks.

Just a short outing and a lot of chatting but was a good session all the sma.e was nice to be out there. going to try get out there more often this year.

SAw a very colourful bobtail/bluetongue on horny devil thankfully I avoided ending its life without crashing too.

Running (SR - Peppermint Grove) 47:49 [3] 6.61 km (7:14 / km) +97m 6:44 / km
ahr:171 max:191 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

First outing for the new year - determined to make it a better year than last on an exercise front.

Wil joined me but I was always going to be slow. Right ankle slowed me a bit after a vicious roll I did on it last week but its a lame excuse fitness and power were main issues. I would love to blame the heat but my pace didn't make it too much fo an issue... more consistency will rectify this problem.

The course was enjoyable - I do like this area though. Clearable at about 8-8.5km I think. Will feels he could do it in 42-43mins but I slowed him for half the course (told him to go run had for last 20 and get something out of it) and our route wasn't ideal.

Still good way to open the exercise books for the year. going to get back down into the low 5mins/km
