Orienteering race (Calophylla - MDC) 1:11:04 [4] 5.85 km (12:09 / km) +285m 9:46 / km
ahr:165 max:184 18c shoes: Brooks Glycerin 12

So unfit - heart rate was sitting 95-100 in car and walking to start 140 like wtf... in fairness uphill but still thats terrible!

Bad start - hit the first river bed going for 1 and got confused quickly corrected and chuckled. Promptly went onto number 2 and failed to see the green and messed it up briefly too - what a muppet!

3-4-5-6 all went reasonably well (from memory) however the leg to 7 I drifted north and misjudged my distance - didn't really pay attention to the map and hit somewhere in between 7 and 8 - saw ricky glide past as well as well everyone else - which was annoying - went back but was completely baffled so went to find 8 - found 8 and returned to 7 from there. would have lost a good 10 minutes here I think and also annoyingly I remember seeing the rocky spur and thinking I should check that on the map - wish I had would have been a dead giveaway!

Leg 8 was obviously pretty straight forward, and then nailed 9 - 10 even though they were slow because I had tried to run 8 when I should have just gone normal pace. Back to 11 - which was 7 from a different angle - I managed to slip (my new shoes don't have great grip!) and fell over and slide my ankle straight into a rock crevice and rolled it same time - was very painful and I limped my way into 11.

over to 12 slow and steady as it was a concerning leg but hit it pretty nicely. Then to 13 - climb was a bit annoying but hit it smack on. Back to 14 which is 11 and 7 - avoided the rocks and swung a bit east to go around faster which I did but got to the base and thought - where the hell am I - was just a bit short and got that sorted out pretty quick smart.

15-16 was very smooth, 17 was a tad tricky but got it within a reasonable time - then made a muppet of 18 as I saw a control and ran to it was the one at the end of the road instead of 18! balh, 18 was an easy find from there and a semi fast finish.

Aiming for sub 1 hr - didn't quite get there but - had I not messed up the nav would have got it.

Average pace vs last year though was much better so I will claim that - and the new shoes do feel more springing and I was tending to get places sooner so will have to adjust my distance guesses.

Anyway off to sydney for a month now so see if I can improve whilst away... cause that will totally happen! :P
