Mountain Biking (Forsyths Mill) 26:02 [4] 5.8 km (13.4 kph) +187m
ahr:164 max:178 shoes: Giro Privateer

Was running early to orienteering and decided to go for a cheeky ride before orienteering rather than after because I wasnt sure on timing after.

Was super nice out there - was PB city for me pretty much every segment was my fastest or equal fastest - so pretty happy with that considering I was treating it as a warmup and was also first time on bike in over a month.

Bike needs a service and a clean it sounded horrible!

I did think Tash would enjoy this, but at least was going for a long walk with her after this so guess it was ok not mentioning this part to her.

1,2,3 went well and strong start

4 I drifted right and long opted to go up to open granite and find the rock to norht and as I did that saw juffy motoring up hill so confirmed to me that I had overshot - quickly corrected.

5 was good but probably a tad slow - then used road but was really uncertain about it so went slowly. ended up hitting 6 really nicely.

Continued on and hit 7, 8, 9, 10 really nicely.

11 was weird over shot and had drifted down slope - but I dont think the description was accurate here and I definitely got a bit fooled here - lost a bit of time here but not too bad.

12 i actually overshot by accident but realized relatively quickly and spotted the control where I was standing so was happy with it.

13 I had the distance correct but had drifted slightly right - had a look around and spotted it so again happy enough.

14 ran into someone else hunting for it and he threw me a bit hwen I was short and backed up abit then decided it was further and it was

15 was nice

16 required some hunting in the big rocks and was feeling flustered and thirsty at this point so was starting to make mistakes.

17 was easy because I had a rock lined up from a while off and saw someone pop up ot it punch and turn away so was happy the whole way in.

Up until this point even though points where not flush I didnt feel bad about any of the nav in fact felt like a really good run so was happy.

18 - about 300-350m... got halfway and thought hold on ive hit granite this shouldnt be here - ive over shot it. back, forward, then north, figured I had drifted south of the flag trying to use open ground to get to it. but wasnt in the right space... so went back to my where did I think i got lost because I know i have been on target all day. Got back to the start and then saw the granite patches I hit on the map - how I didnt see this before... must have been glare on map or something... either way sad panda - was really thirsty now and this leg really destroyed my will to live. Got there flush in the end.

19 wanted an easy good leg, purposely aimed to the left of the t junction... somehow drifted to the right of it... GAH... saw the water crossing and it confussed me, went hunting for the t-junction (which didnt exist). eventually used river and the bend in the road after it to relocate and attack from there. could have gone a bit tighter from that course but spotted boulders and was happy.

20 what a crappy control site seriously... anyways drifted right again, used the track as my catching feature but really was a bingo control for me. really wasnt that happy at this point either.

21 wanted easiest option. hey lets use the main road and then take that nice boldly marked track and attack from there will be an easy attack.. accept the road didnt exist so massive over shoot - frustrated and tired eventually after back tracking a while I think bugger it, I will go find finish and come back in. Well that idea worked yay. if ti wasn't for the cars and the finish line I would have been screwed here. HORRIBLE CONTROL.

Meandered in for the finish and then packed up and went home very quickly to make my flight back to Sydney in time!

p.s.

Pretty disappointed I flew back from Sydney just for this event to walk with Tash and she stood me up for some stair climb pfft! always going the extra mile and being shut down... tisk tisk
