Mountain Biking race (MTBO - Dryandra) 2:07:59 [3] 32.07 km (15.0 kph) +511m
ahr:147 max:171 shoes: Giro Privateer

Arrived late but still with time to do long - annoyed at forgetting my glasses though.

Wanted to be a tad competitive today and went out hard - shame I took the longer more difficult route to the first control along the fence boundary rather than the main road.

Oh well maybe I could fix that going to #2... nope did the same again ignored main road and read contours wrong and took the longest crapest leg possible. sigh.

#3/4 uneventful slogs.

#5 the tracks going in where dubious at best but got there just following contours.

#6 same mistake lets not take main road but take more direct route - it was scenic - probably nicest area I rode through just not fast.

#7 some debate on this one went north first - then downhill to dam - cross over north of dam and followed powerline up - certainly didnt feel efficient but it worked.

#8 nothing to report - straight forward

#9 all good right up until I saw the control tucked in behind a stump and slammed on breaks much to Tooms delight as he was not far behind me.

#10 pulled up a bit short but otherwise was a boring slog

#11 slog fest

#12 some how Muppetted up the dog leg and stopped before the obvious track. Went to track junction west of 12 and it worked a treat.

#13 up the middle then to the main road to the east - worked nicely

#14 got confused coming into the camping area but once I realised what was going now as good until the track up to 14 where I saw the track got over some trees and the track disappeared.

Fin - one of the nicer finish legs I have had in a while enjoyed it.

Felt lack lustre from point 2 onwards and became more of a grind than a race tbh. Seems I still did an alright time but confident I had 10 mins I could trim off that time no worries.

Knees both quite sore post course but didnt stop me from footo.

Orienteering race (Foot-O Dryandra) 1:30:31 [3] 9.03 km (10:01 / km) +179m 9:07 / km
ahr:152 max:173 shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3d M+

Knees felt really average - calf felt tight too.

Figured most of this would be straight line stuff.

#1 hit this one reasonably nicely a bit of drifting but generally lined it up all the way.

#2 drifted a bit to the left but worked it out pretty quickly particularly with the horde of people moving around.

#3 used the track until the top of the rise then went in. saw the control over shot it thinking thats too early hit the green and stopped and thought - wait a minute... went back it was mine - felt weird

#4 navigation was on the money. Started to feel right glute pulling again - been doing this now since I first did calf - must be compensating?!

#5 a fair bit of running - held of ricky for a short while but as we approached the roads he put the jets on and that was that. I drifted right and had to correct but managed to do so using the small knoll.

#6 Knew about right drift so forced myself left - ended up bang on target.

#7 Fine through to the rough open. somehow drifted right from there and thinking I saw a dip to the right (stupid SFG controls) I went for an explore when really I should have known I was right drifting and gone left. After hunting a short while I knew I had gone wrong and trudged back to where the control was.

#8 had a look at going over the top ... f that. it was green as advertised so contoured around.

#9 On the money the whole way there - dropped to much height going around the west though so had to climb back up.

#10 Drifted right again but could use the knoll to pull myself back into alignment

#11 Tried to break my shin in two on a stop/stick/something sharp - it hurt - I kept going - drifted right even though I was aiming off left now! saw the control off to my left though so adjusted.

#12 had been working towards a 1hr 30 target for some time and figured about now I couldnt make it but I hit 12 flush following the ridge line.

#13 Probably could have made my time if I went absolute full tilt - as it was I did open the taps a bit here with the last minute of my run being a sub 5 minute km pace and my fastest pace for the run at 4:31/km. but I also wanted to make sure calf was ok - and given it had niggled a few times out there wasnt willing to go any harder.

Generally a nice day out there - not sure if worth the 4 hours of driving for 3hr 37 of activity it was pretty mundane territory.

Complaint from the footo was such long legs compared to normal. almost felt like 6hr rogaine type nav. but with much more annoying map folds.

Running (Long Night Run) 1:12:56 [3] 11.67 km (6:15 / km) +173m 5:49 / km
ahr:157 max:173 shoes: ASICS GEL - Nimbus 17

Long night run with Will,

Felt pretty good started slow but built pretty quickly - double tshirt so was warm - maybe too warm. Legs where cool though. lovely night for it.

Probably could have stretched out the legs and gone a bit harder early but just plodded along.

Only a few walks on hills but generally pretty good at holding a near 6min km pace. Need to drop that down a bit but was still protecting calf a bit.

Did have a calf twang around the 10.5km mark. Eased off but the twang was lower down towards the area above the achilles but below the main section of calf where the tear was. Think it was adjusting to new technique which has me doing more on and off of my big toe. Either way slightly unpleasant but I dont think a concern - put on the compression as a protective measure all the same but dont think ti will be an issue tomorrow. Guess well find out though!

Good chat with Will throughout - so much so that we went for a 2km cool down walk and then chatted longer when we got back. May log the walk once I get Wills trace - as I didnt trace it thinking it was going to be small/insignificant.

Incidentally i think my step counter is undercooking my steps. last few days seems to have been very low and 11km run only 17k steps feels light on with all other steps today.. not sure. will monitor.

Road Bike (Commute to Work) 20:54 [3] 7.31 km (21.0 kph) +102m
ahr:148 max:176 shoes: Giro Privateer

Had to go in earlier than normal for a town hall. brrrrr it was cold. I decided to counter act the coldness I would go hard up may drive - no PR. I blame the coldness. but certainly worked hard.

Ear ache by end of ride and a pathetic cough from the cold air which is somehow still lingering into the morning. I need some warmer clothes I think.

Road Bike (Commute - To Home) 19:20 [3] 7.58 km (23.5 kph) +57m
ahr:137 max:157 shoes: Giro Privateer

Late leaving work - so opted for railway bike path - felt it would be safer - all lights working and warm gear made it a comfortable ride though and almost no delays in getting from building to path so happy days there!

I rarely call out bike coming or bike exiting on underpasses unless there is a reasonable reason to do so.
when tonight I hadn't seen a cyclist the whole ride and had my headlight on full beam for whatever reason i decided it required not only a standard call on entry and exit but a yell as I went into the subi underpass under hay st.
I almost never call on this underpass because it has a mirror and you can see whats going on. but I called all the same and glad I did.
On exit I was met with a bicyclist who had both feet off their pedals on wrong side of path coming down hill at speed with a piss weak light - had I not yelled my call they wouldnt have reacted and I would have hit them reasonably fast as them came into the underpass on my side of the path - only just missed them - hope it left them with some brown streaks. Surprised they didnt see my light beam coming out of the tunnel well before I called.

Blah - otherwise uneventful.
