Mountain Biking (MTBO - Banyowla) 3:18:54 [3] 23.73 km (7.2 kph) +574m
ahr:157 max:183 shoes: Giro Privateer

Got to rego just after 930 as wanted to be early out the door knowing that the area would be hilly. Dave was keen to go with me as he just wanted a plodding pace and knew that's what I would be good for.

Sadly start was delayed as the briefing was about 5-10 minutes a pop and there were 2 starts in front of us. So ended up starting closer to 10.

Went at a reasonable clip early whilst in suburbia and that was enjoyable - it wasn't until 7-8 that the true grasp of what being sick for weeks on end, non-consistent training, bad sleep, bad diet and general Bryceness had turned into. Pretty much imploded - told Dave happy for him to ride on as I was flagged early I was going to be in the hurt locker and very slow.

Got most of the way to 9 and hit the wall - got quite lightheaded and felt massively overheated. helmet straight off and glasses off and stopped in the shade. was seriously considering putting the towel in now as really wasn't feeling well. Waited a bit and trudged on.

Muppet up my route to 10 at the start but got there in the end - really wasn't a clean leg at all. At this point 12 was my pull out point was going to cruise until then.

11 was an enjoyable leg and this is where Ricky overtook us - in a not so clean fashion for him but so be it he was sick too ill cut him some slack.

post 12 was feeling reasonable again so went for 13 which was fine then the long leg to 14. lone behold pretty much imploded (not as bad as the first time) in the exact same spot.

Not much to report next few legs was really just a bit of a grind fest. enjoyed the single trail down to 18 was one of my highlights at that point apart from a few cracking descents I committed to (so I wouldn't have to pedal up the next hill). 19 the landowner had a few words because we almost went over their ashes and they said it was private property. I showed them the map and that their land was out of bounds and that this was open area - I think they realised that their ashes probably weren't in their parcel of land and went to do something about them.

left calf cramped pretty badly at #20 and this was the start of the end. I knew we where overtime regardless (blame the briefing - the hills and the long course) and whilst the legs to 24 were pretty easy I said to Dave going to 24 - we aren't being competitive we are taking it easy - I'm out of water and I am cramping I rather pull the pin and not go back out to 26-27-28

So we went 25-29. in looking at results and working out what we would've done probably ~20 mins in grabbing the controls we missed which had we started at 930 would've still been 10mins over. But given we started nearer to 10 (959) would have been 40 over and that's not cool. So 25-29-30-31-32 (dropped last two just because why bother). and home.

Wasn't the most enjoyable mtbo experience I've had - I was in hurt locker most the way even though not really pushing it. the area is pretty shit tbh. Certain Banyowla translates to 'shit uphill pebble bs'. But was nice to go have a ride with Dave even if was holding him up something fierce.

Arms and legs destroyed by vegitation - I am sure the vegitation ahs somethign to say about my riding. Sunburnt to boot. Feel like I have the king of all headaches right now and been a general struggle most afternoon :(
